Maybe if his ship hadn’t been damaged the trip would have only taken a month instead of five years cause he seemed shocked when he got back that so much time had passed.

Lost and Superman Returns… Two of the greatest wastes of time and money this century.

Both were long, drawn out, overloaded with quasi-religious imagery, and although both had great potential they also ended up being infuriating, colossal disappointments.

I can see why they left this scene out. It has no context, and really does nothing to further the movie’s plot along. Not that it would have helped or hindered it. The whole “Superman is a deadbeat Dad” theme was a real waste of this remake (even with everyone denying that’s what it was.. but watch it again… it’s nearly a scene for scene remake of the Donner classic, albeit with different characters or props).

As for Routh… he will forever (for me) be “the plastic Superman”… I used to see more realistic facial features in my old collection of late 60′s GI Joes. Even when you KNOW it’s the actor… he looks CGI’d to death!

I doubt I would’ve minded that much if this scene was included as long as it was in exchange for excising all the scenes with that asthmatic kid. Hollywood always ruins too many movies by putting useless children into their movies all for the sake of cuteness.

There was a Kalibak fight, too?!

This was a deleted scene for a reason. BTW: I didn’t hate Superman Returns, I was just disappointed because it left nowhere for itself to go. I own the soundtrack, which I do enjoy listening to, but if I watch the movie, it’s mostly for Spacey as Lex.

I have no idea what’s going on in this scene. He’s flying around in space, comes up on I assume Kryptonite (but, for the opening of a film, with no context, who’s going to know it’s kryptonite?), gets weakened, flies away. So what? two lines of dialogue would have said this faster: “where’ve you been?” “in space.”

Right, this is showing Superman finding the remains of Krypton, which is why he left Earth for several years in the film. It makes sense to cut it out since the point of the movie was Superman RETURNS not “What was Superman Doing For Years By Himself In a Space Icicle?”

I loved the movie, and I thought this scene was way cool. It would have worked better as a flashback or shown in pieces during the movie, ala Lost. The effects were great, but as the opening of the movie, it would have been too slow.

If they would have kept the focus on his being the Last Son of Krypton, not done the super stalker angle and kept the kid completely out, this would have worked well with Luthor’s kryptonite island. They could have even used the ship hitting the debris field to trigger something that would have resulted in Supergirl arriving on Earth… oh well…
