Awesome, kill Thor off now, bring him back just in time for the May 2012 release of the Avengers movie, with yet ANOTHER new #1, making him a new world record of the character with the most restarts in a 10 year span....thanks Marvel!

I hate what Matt Fraction has done on Thor. Bad dialogue, bizarre characterization and half-baked ideas are only barely made up for by the stellar artwork of Coipel and Ferry. Thor really sells as more of a picture book these days.

Fraction is the singularly worst Thor writer in ages. I really wish they'd let Kieron Gillen write the book on a regular basis. Him or Jonathan Hickman.

I like Fraction's Iron Man but his X-Men and Thor make me think Marvel has given him too much credit for one success.

JMS was onto something when he was writing Thor not too long ago. Fraction just seems like he's on narcotics.

They could TOTALLY kill Thor. They've got Hel right there, his books could keep going, and he'd be back after an arc or two in time for Avengers summer. Also, lil' Low Key Liesmith could keep Journey Into Mystery a while longer.

@The Chud - Amen brother!

I've never been a big fan of J.R. Jr., but it seems his work has been going downhill fast of late. I couldn't even make it through the 1st issue of his Avengers.

Wonder what's up?

really? Thor JUST died and came back. As Hans and some others have said though: he's got a new book out, and with the Avengers movie coming out next year it probably wouldn't make sense from a sales perspective not to have a current Thor book on the market.

I'm sorry, but J.R. Jr.'s artwork is just terrible lately. Everyone more or less looks the same and everything is too square. His art actually keeps me from buying books, which is a shame as it used to be wonderful.

@CDickerson - I'll agree with you there. No reason not to have a big event, just keep them limited to their own book. Make each of the event books mean something.

And as far as staying on topic goes, I doubt they'll be getting rid of Thor with the Avengers movie coming out next year. It's no coincidence Steve Rogers is back as Cap, and that they're refreshing the Hulk. With DC making their characters more "accessible" you'd have to figure Marvel will do the same thing when they have a movies coming out based on those characters, including Thor.

I know Marvel is obviously trying to make everything think Thor is going to die (that in itself should be a hint that they're just trying to stir things up as usual), but come on, they're not going to kill him off when his brand new book has just started. (they'll at least wait til the sales start dropping first)

How about a big event that is actually a big event? What I mean is: Why have all the damn spin offs? If those stories are so damn important to warrant a series to be told, tell them in the event book. So, instead of 7 or 8 issues it becomes an easy 12 issues. Take the time to tell the story in the scope it deserves. That was the problem with Secret Invasion, NOTHING happened in the core book, everything happened in the spin offs. And that could have been a hell of a story! I was very excited for that book and was let down big time. Stop trying to take a story that can easily run 10 issues, or more, and condense it into 6 or 8. Then decide to expand on it by making 3 4 issue spin offs. Just take the event title and make THAT the event book where EVERYTHING important happens.
That's my take on the whole big event contoversey. I don't mind them, if they are well done. But the last one that was well done was Blackest Night.

@ Little Timmy and Marvik:

I read ASM and Future Foundation and the regualar ASM and FF titles have not had a single Fear Itself Tie-In. I think there have been spin-off's but I have skipped them and as Fear Itself has not been reflected in the regular titles, I don't really feel that I am missing anything from skipping these events.

I liked OLD SCHOOL Marvel, where you could tell a big story within the title itself, my fave being UNDER SIEGE in Avengers where the Masters of Evil take over Avengers Mansion and do some serious damage. I would be more opt to buy in if these events were to be less regular and thus feel more 'special' or important.

Aaaaaaaaaaand back on topic - Replaced Thor character - I'm assuming Asgardian - I like Steve's idea of Skurge. I think he died a "hero?" Maybe a reborn Ares? Could it be a reforn Tyr? Tyr had two braids, and lost his left hand (which you can't see in this pic).

Ah, forgot that one. Was thinking a physical character, not another mental split thing.

And can we start calling the Black Hulk "Bulk?"

If the Hulk with the beard and all the chains is the "Ebon Hulk," or Black Hulk, or whatever they are calling it, Marvel's in for a storm of commentary on perceived racism.

@ Mavrik

I hear ya, i'm tired of the events too. one every few years would be find. but this every year crap is stupid. just when you get used to the new status quo, another event comes along and tears it down.

and like you said, you can't just NOT read the event, because it sucks in every book like a black hole. if you ignore the event, then you have to ignore the tie ins of the books you love. then after the event, you're lost. it pisses me off too, bud.

Is anybody else getting tired of these big events? I've always liked the fact that comic book characters aren't just limited to one book and that they are tied to their universe as a whole.... but I'm getting a little burnt out now.

I read Amazing Spider-Man, Invincible Iron Man, X-Men and even Wolverine. I even started reading Fear Itself, but just like Civil War and all of the other big events, there are just so many tie-ins to read that it gets on my nerves. And I can't just not read Fear Itself because of how much the other titles I read are tied into it.

My point is I'm getting kind of tired of it. Like em or hate em, I don't blame DC for trying to get things back to a simpler kind of reading. An occasional "Big Event" is fine, but enough is enough. Let these guys stand on their own for a while.

(Just my opinion)

i think the dude with the purple sticks is.... the monkey....something or another... hes in a fear itself tie in(i think war machine) and he lives in hell, and hes quite entertaining.

traditionally a midlife crisis is someone pretending they are young again, the hulk is more in a mid life rut, and letting himself go, lol
