@Laroquod. you are exactly right. I think in digital comicbooks, there is no reason to think in the ways of pages. Pages are mute. They are going to be the way of the dodos. Yes we must still consider and use sequence, but sequence can still be told in non-traditional methods. For example, has anyone used the Chromium OS software? I'm not much of a fan of the Open System part, the the way in which you can tell a narration, yet be extremely creative with design and visual storytelling. That is just one example that I can think of. The boundaries that we currently have on the page are soon to not be needed. I have several apps on my IPod that have some great digital comics, and some real inventive ways of storytelling. This is all exciting stuff. As more young people start aging and start expecting more from a comic book, we will start seeing some real innovations. With the announcement of Borders Bookstores going under and closing their doors (some of which was due to bureaucratic retardation and a slow reaction to an ever changing publishing and retail industry) I can easily have the vision of a paperless society. I hope not. I like my books, comic-books, newspapers, and so forth. I don't want all of that to go away, but with our economies starting to implode, the cost of publishing on paper will undoubtedly be overwhelming if people have their IPads, Nooks, and Kindles. In 1994, I had an idea of an electronic comic-book where the artist didn't need to illustrate on the page at all. Individual illustrations, not necessarily within a panel or box, were all that were going to be needed in order to scan in (of course now it can be done with a Wacom tablet and no need for art supplies at all) art and using Illustrator and perhaps an invented software, was all that would have been needed. Sadly, as in now also, I don't have any connections to make any of this stuff happen.

There is a giant overemphasis in among digital comics circles today on the importance of pagination. Pagination is not that important to print comics, nor is messing with the pagination going to bring us to any medium-exploding digital promised land. There are plenty of exciting experiments to be done in digital, but pretty much none of them have to do with aspect ratio or 'infinite canvas' or number of panels per page. That stuff is just scribbling in the margins (pun intended).

I'll only point out that the lack of page limitations doesn't mean you're completely ignoring page size limitations, which are what every developer runs into when coming up with navigation for mobile devices. I'm really excited as a digital comic creator to see what he's working on though.

Reminds me of Scott McCloud and his stance on the subject. The sky is really the limit when you start to develop comics specifically for that type of medium.

@RunnerX13:

He does. You do realize that print comics as they now exist were invented in the 1930s, when original material began being produced in comic book pamphlets as they are now, and that that is what Moore is talking about?

"That I don’t think is the way to do it, because comics storytelling is entirely predicated upon the print technologies of the late 1930s."

Moore does realise that we're 80s out of the 1930s?

WAIT! Are you telling me there's an aspect of the comic book industry that Alan Moore DOESN'T like? My world lies in shatters.

But seriously, I'd love to see what he'd do in digital format. Some kind of imersive flash file where you have to scroll in all directions and can zoom to panels within panels and whatnot. The possibilities are kind of daunting when you really start thinking about what a digital comic could be.
