Something’s sticking in my head about these new Marvel teasers featuring Iron Fist and Doctor Strange – Both of whom are members of the New Avengers, so it may be advertising a status quo change (A new writer? Nah, that’d never happen) for that book, or perhaps a wave of new solo books starring various B-level characters who haven’t shown the ability to support titles longterm in the recent past, but whom have movies in development and so are likely to get an increased spotlight soon nonetheless – and it’s not the fact that the design is so almost lovely, but not quite (Problems include the outlines of the characters, choice of font and that textured background, but that’s purely my art school snobbery coming into play). No, it’s the highlighted letters. Are they randomly chosen? Will they end up spelling something out, when all the teasers are revealed? Is there an importance to the color coding (Some letters are red, some yellow, some orange)?
So far, we have Iron Fist’s highlighted letters – T E H R F E H U T H V O S I N E T G E Y – and Doctor Strange’s – O V Y U H N E T R U O T U U E S – but I have to admit that I can’t see any obvious anagrams in there (Moreso for Strange’s). What am I missing, wordsmiths? Or am I barking up the wrong typographical tree?

I like these for Iron Fist:
Refute Then Shiv Hot
Heftiest Rove Nth Uh
And for Dr. Strange:
House Envy Our Tutu
Event Uh Your Out Us
Even Thou You Rut Us

For a while, I think it was Brian Michael Bendis who talked about doing something with magic in the Marvel universe. I suppose, depending on who else is included in future pictures, this could be what he was referring to.

If you unscramble the yellow letters for Doctor Strange you get UNIVERSE.
July 12th, 2011 at 1:06 pm
Yeah, it looks like the words are scrambled by colours. So
Iron Fist:
Brown – Fight
Yellow – the
Orange – thus/shut/huts/umm… tush
Red – everyone
Dr. Strange:
Brown – To
Yellow – Universe
Orange – The
Red – You
Probably will need all the teasers to figure out the rest.
July 12th, 2011 at 1:27 pm
if you unscramble the letters of each by colour you get:
colour: iron fist dr strange
yellow the universe
red everyone you
dark red fight to
orange thus the
i may have gotten some of the colours wrong… or they may not be the same from poster to poster
July 12th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
How about: “To Fight The Universe Shut The Everyone You” ?
I know that makes little sense, but maybe it’s closer?
July 13th, 2011 at 7:55 am
Alternative possibility:
When all the teasers come out, all the red words from all the teasers spell something together, and same with all the yellow words, orange words, etc.
July 13th, 2011 at 7:58 am

July 13th, 2011 at 8:03 am
Hi there,

Red : Everyone you love
Yellow: The universe will
Orange: Shut the engines
So, Ironfist word – Dr strange word – Red she-hulk word…
July 13th, 2011 at 8:15 am
Iron Fist, She Hulk, and Dr. Strange were all featured in Fear Itself’s “The Mighty” teaser.
July 13th, 2011 at 8:27 am
So… we will see an Ironman teaser, Hawkeye teaser, Wolverine teaser, Ms Marvel teaser, Spiderman teaser …
July 13th, 2011 at 10:17 am
The messages are color coded and are meant to be read in the order the images came out.
Iron Fist
Yellow = The, Orange = Shut, Red = Everything, Crimson =Fight
Dr. Strange
Yellow = Universe, Orange = The, Red = You, Crimson = To
Red She-Hulk
Yellow = Will, Orange = Engines, Red = Love, Crimson = Save
Yellow: “The Universe Will”
Orange: “Shut The Engines”
Red: “Everyone You Love”
Crimson: “Fight To Save”
All leading to a new Mighty Avengers Series that will replace Secret Avengers.
July 13th, 2011 at 10:25 am
It does seem like Marvel’s events lately have all lead in to a new Avengers title of some kind, Civil War led to Mighty Avengers, Secret Invasion to Dark Avengers and Siege to the 3 or 7 current Avengers titles so it’s not a stretch to imagine that Fear Itself will do the same
July 13th, 2011 at 10:28 am
Doesn’t Dr. Strange + Iron Fist + a Hulk sound more like a new Defenders team, rather than Avengers?
July 13th, 2011 at 11:09 am
Marvel knows that the name “Defenders” won’t sell books. And they have an “Avengers” movie coming out next year. Plus, with Wolverine being busy in X-books and Thing & Spidey busy in FF, Moon Knight in his own book, Nova temporarily “dead”, the Secret Avengers would be down to Ant Man, Beast, Black Widow and Valkyrie. Look for those characters to be dispersed between “Avengers”, “Might Avengers” and “New Avengers”.
July 13th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
So far, each figure displayed (Iron Fist, Dr. Strange & Red She-Hulk) features the word “Defender.”
July 13th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
Did anyone else notice the word “Thunderbolt” in the arm of “Red She-Hulk”?
July 13th, 2011 at 8:52 pm
I saw “Thunderbolt,” but then I remembered that it’s a nickname of her father, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who’s now the Red Hulk.
July 14th, 2011 at 7:42 am
The Silver Surfers ones are Break, Down, Dies and Everything.
Making each phrase up to now:
Yellow – The Universe Will Break
Orange – Shut The Engines Down
Red – Everyone You Love Dies
Crimson – Fight To Save Everything
July 14th, 2011 at 7:43 am
Yellow: “The Universe Will Break”
Orange: “Shut The Engines Down”
Red: “Everyone You Love Dies”
Crimson: “Fight To Save Everything”
July 14th, 2011 at 7:52 am
‘Defender’ is listed in every character – including Red She-Hulk whom you would think doesn’t overly fit with her. I don’t believe Iron Fist was ever in the Defenders as well.
This must mean this is the marketing campaign for a new Defenders title. Guaranteed.
July 14th, 2011 at 8:14 am
There going to add another color i beileve three colors is too mundane if you catch my drift heres to hoping
July 14th, 2011 at 8:35 am
Hmmm, so maybe we are getting “Mighty Defenders” instead of Mighty Avengers.
July 14th, 2011 at 8:54 am
So. We have 4 complete phrases.
This is clearly the Defenders’ Big 4. If more follow they’ll be the small 3…just hope the finally do it right.
July 14th, 2011 at 9:14 am
How come “staff” is one of Doctor Strange’s words (between “loner” and “accident”)? I don’t remember him ever using a staff.
July 14th, 2011 at 4:04 pm
Was Iron Fist ever a Defender? Yes, there was a membership drive around the 40′s thru 60′s (Issue 54 comes to mind) where there was a membership drive. Paladin, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, 3D-Man (sic) and a whole slew of others were granted membership by the Defenders – whom I believe was led by NightHawk (sic) and had Valkyrie (but no Beast, Angel, Gargoyle or Iceman as members – if memory serves me well) as a main cast member.
I believe Betty Banner Ross was an honorary member – or at least hung out at the Defenders HQ during this period.
Also, are we certain that the Female silhouette Red She-Hulk? In the Fear Itself tie-in “The Deep” Titania or her – somehow, off world daughter of the Hulk – look-a-like has joined the fray, which will undoubtedly leave off with the founding of a new (mighty) Defenders team.
July 14th, 2011 at 4:17 pm
In support of my earlier statement on Iron Fist’s Defenders membership status.
http://marvel.wikia.com/Defenders_Vol_1_62
Appears to have been in issue #62 of the Defenders as part of the “Defender for a Day” storyline.
July 14th, 2011 at 5:51 pm
How come the word STAFF appears in DR. Stephen Strange’ image?…
I thought this may have been a reference to Wong and Midnight Nurse.
Wong has been Stehpen’s man-servant (staff) for numerous years (issues) and Midnight Nurse recently joined Stephen in a easily missed mini-series.
You could (to a point) also include Brother VooDoo in the staff department – if not very loosely.
July 15th, 2011 at 6:01 am
I really hope today’s silo is Valkyrie’s. I never understood her presence in the Secret Avengers. A Defenders title is where she belongs, despite the Asgard Connection.
July 15th, 2011 at 6:34 am
From the 4 images so far I got these:
Yellow: “The Universe Will Break”
Orange: “Shut The Engines Down”
Red: “Everyone You Love Dies”
Crimson: “Fight To Save Everything”
July 15th, 2011 at 8:31 am
The new Hulk one is all black. They must not want us figuring out the rest
July 15th, 2011 at 11:15 am
I’m guessing that hulk is Red Hulk, based on the “offender” bit on his leg
July 19th, 2011 at 4:17 pm
Any reason that Orange isn’t “The Engines Shut Down” ? Seems more consistent.
