Never Mind Fear Itself, What About Next Year’s Marvel Event?

June 9th, 2011
Author Graeme McMillan

Hidden away in that USA Today story about Daredevil joining the New Avengers is this line:

It’s quite an interesting cast of characters that Norman [Osborn]‘s going to build up,” says Bendis, who’s currently working on next summer’s “big giant hoo-hah” event.

Ignoring the return of Osborn as the Avengers big bad again – He’s only been gone from that role for less than two years! Give the man a break, already – it’s surprising to see mention of Marvel’s next summer event already. Does “working on” mean that Bendis is writing the core book, or just that he’s so far ahead in his deadlines that he’s writing his tie-ins already? Somehow, I think it’s probably the former… in which case, does this mean that we now know whether that Age of Ultron thing he’s doing with Bryan Hitch will be an Avengers-only storyline, or something on a much larger scale?

  1. Chris B. Says:

    I think ‘working on’ means plot basics and characters. I seriously doubt issue one is even close to being written. Planning ahead is one thing, but having an entire series written a year in advance is stretching it.

  2. Matt Rower Says:

    My favorite part of the USA Today article?

    “That opens his eyes to maybe this is a good place for him to be right now,” Bendis says. (Because, y’know, Daredevil’s blind. But surprising, that didn’t get a “no pun intended.”)

  3. Neil Says:

    Having a series written a year in advance may be stretching it, but if this is what he and Bryan Hitch are working on, that kind of lead time may be needed.

  4. Y Says:

    Whatever, its all the same – Jessica Jones, Cage, Osborn, The Hood, Ultron, and on and on. He has no secret weapon. But “Bendis sells”. Who buys this? Obviously people that don’t browse comic book news sites and forums.

    They can have their X-titles too. Brevoort just admitted they weren’t rebooting it and here it is a few days later.

    Screw the big 2. I will read Valiant exclusively next year.

  5. Jimmy Sandbags Says:

    @Y

    Really? Know one who reads this stuff buys it? Somehow I doubt that. Valiant? That line will most likely be cancelled for a second time, in less than…what two years? Which does suck, but will probably happen.
