We’ve got another new Green Lantern trailer, and this one is in 3D. Not that you can tell that from viewing it on a computer, but it’s running in all of its depth-rich glory in theaters before the just-opened Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which probably explains the heavy use of Geoffrey Rush narration (he’s voicing Corps member Tomar Re, and plays Barbossa in the Pirates films — between that and all the awards for The King’s Speech, dude is having a big 2011). This one plays it totally straight, with none of the comedy that concerned some fans following early footage released for the film. And, hey, here it is:
Green Lantern is scheduled for theaters June 17, 2011.

Epic gets thrown around a lot lately, but this trailer deserves to be called epic, man that was awesome…

Holy F’in F! What a brilliant trailer that is full of everything existing fans want to see with everything folks that know nothing about the Green Lantern concept everything they need to know.

I for one believe that trailers and marketing in general should be used so as to get people who don’t know about the comic books more familiar with them. This way not all such movies will have to spend half of their running time doing the origin story. Don’t get me wrong, I love origin stories, but most movies have the same motif and it has gone tiresome on me. Great trailer!

Ugh.
This thing looks more and more like all the bad parts of the STAR WARS prequels jacked up past the end of the dial.
What is that “parallax” s#!t? Looks like the sewers are taking out their revenge on the citizens of Whatever-town, DCU.
Ooh, a scary, brown, cartoon glob. Better run! It’s gonna get you with its poo-finger!
Unimpressed. Enough of these dumb, generic, sci-fi movies!
May 21st, 2011 at 8:06 am
Looks awesome! The trailers for this film just keep getting better and better.
May 21st, 2011 at 8:42 am
Mike, how is this a dumb, generic sci-fi movie? OK, you don’t like it, but how many sci-fi films are you watching about men who create constructs from a ring using willpower as an intergalactic guardian? What are you talking about?
If you’re on Newsarama, I’m guessing you know something about comics but from what you wrote, it feels like someone linked you to this site to see the trailer.

Looks AMAZING!!!!!!!! Just wish it was Kyle! It sure feels like they are playing the character more like Kyle with the name Hal Jordan and the whole pilot thing. Which makes sense because Kyle is MUCH more relatable!

Dear Vichus Smith,
Don’t be so mean to Mike, I am sure he is a marvel fans who is just jealous DC is coming with great another movie again.
Honestly, I was worry the 1st time when I saw the 1st and 2nd trailers. But this version changes everything. It is so good that it can be the best space movie ever made.
Happy watching everyone.
May 21st, 2011 at 10:50 am
This trailer is awesome, but I think it kind of spoils the film. I wished Parallax would remain a surprise until the film premiere. or perhaps use another villian because Parallax is just so powerful to use in the 1st film.

WOW!!!!! I’m officially impressed!!!If I had the money I would run out and buy some GL comics! Dang govt & wall street lol
May 21st, 2011 at 2:23 pm
Wow. That looks amazing. I love the fantastical elements to it. I love the way he flies on OA and some of those constructs are simply BOSS.
This is going to be the best comic book movie this summer. Awesome.
May 21st, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Lol at least Parallax doesn’t look like some giant space cloud like Galactus.

This movie is the epitome of everything I detest about modern movies, a complete CGI production, right down to the damn uniforms. Even as a lifetime GL fan, I cannot comprehend how anyone can support this affrontery. Everything is fake. Yes, I know it could not have been made without it, but that ultimately changes nothing. I have more respect and anticipation for the upcoming animated DVD.
May 21st, 2011 at 6:31 pm
To AeroRep–
Last time I checked, all of that imagery on that animated DVD is also fake. Your logic makes absolutely no sense….
So if it’s traditionally animated, the standards are somehow different?
Like most people who detest the CGI in this movie–you should probably just admit that you have an unfounded bias again computer imagery being used in movies. At least I’ll buy that. Unless you can somehow conjure green energy and make giant fists out of thin air, CGI’s here to stay.

Cheesy character designs(Hey! a purple guy with Spock ears!)? check
Mediocre quality CGI sequences? check
Awkward poem interrupting the flow of the trailer? check
More mediocre CGI sequences? check
Gratuitous shot of Ryan Reynolds in his underwear? check
Mediocre CGI cloud monster COMING AT YOU IN 3D!! double check
must be another Green Lanter trailer!

I hate the stupid, plastic looking bowls on the heads of the Guardians… Other than that, meh.
May 22nd, 2011 at 7:02 am
i can wait to see it the cgi is a litle mess up but until we find real alien’s for actor’s ill’go with this
May 22nd, 2011 at 11:07 am
Well here’s my problem with this trailer. IT TELLS YOU EVERYTHING!!!!!!! There is no need to go spend $20 to see it. They Literally just told you the whole story in 2 minutes. WOW THANKS DC/WB… Idiots. This also brings up a great point about ALL TRAILERS. They give away the best parts **COUGH** Last year with IRONMAN 2 showing the briefcase in the trailer, just think of how F’ING cool it would have been to be sitting in the theater and see Happy walking in with it, and then Stark opening it on the track… DEAR HOLLYWOOD, WE GET YOU WANT US TO GO SEE THE FILM, BUT PLEASE STOP SHOWING US EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE COOLEST PARTS, BEFORE WE GO TO THE THEATER AND SEE IT!!!!

Ok I’m sorry I feel I need to make another post. This goes to all of you have posted before me. SHUT UP! I doubt any of you have ever read a GL comic in your lives. To the dude who said this could be the greatest Sci-fi movie ever, ARE YOU RETARDED! There are a dozen Sci-fi movies that are better than this and that’s without even putting STAR WARS in the mix. Seriously all of your comments are not much better than the idiots who like to post “FIRST” Here’s my advice. Until you have actually READ THE COMIC, or done any type of research into what you are talking about, stick to looking up porn, and stay away from posting you make this site look like an amateur hack site.

“Last time I checked, all of that imagery on that animated DVD is also fake. Your logic makes absolutely no sense….

Duh, yeah. If you don’t know the difference between live action and animation there’s no point debating with you.

Look out, citizens!
It’s a tsunami of sewage!
Run! Run! Run away!
If there isn’t someone around who can harness the emerald energy of will-power, we’re all gonna get covered in diarrhea!
Run! Run faster!

Good morning. I’m a Marvel fan. I don’t like DC Comics. This trailer was more than I expected. I am now scared it will be good. Perhaps better than Spider-Man 3, which is difficult to do since that movie was so awesome I was happy. I don’t know what to do about these strange feelings, so I will simply say “yeargh gargh DC stoopid green is dumb beyearhhghgh sci fi sci fi”
May 23rd, 2011 at 8:11 am
I agree with Roger. This looks uhhhh good. Like this is what Thor should’ve had a bit more history. Alas, I’m in the theater for this!!!!!
May 23rd, 2011 at 12:59 pm
I’m a little concerned. We who read and love the comics understand the color spectrum within the long history of the GL universe. I hope that the very quick recap of the yellow and the green in the trailer is an enticement to the uninitiated. I worried that it’s not. You really cannot condense the depth of the concept into a couple of minutes of a preview. So I’m worried that the literary conceit of “emotions” having color and specific power will appear a little silly to those who haven’t been reading the comics. Still, great special effects, and I love the fact that we get to see the Corps and get a feel for its history and grave mission. Also, very glad to finally see why Hal growls out the last line of the GL oath. Sad that this — apparently — is the only time he says it in the movie.

Mike Says:
“Look out, citizens!
It’s a tsunami of sewage!
Run! Run! Run away!
… we’re all gonna get covered in diarrhea!
Run! Run faster!”
But enough about opening weekend. What do you think of that lame cloud monster in the trailer?
May 23rd, 2011 at 3:18 pm
cant wait to see this haters will eat there words
May 23rd, 2011 at 11:34 pm
Cringe-inducing junk. The melodramatic oath recital will send any non-fan running. This looks like a faithful enough adaptation, but I find it hard to believe mainstream audiences will give it a chance. The cheese is dialed up entirely too high.
Green Lantern is really a problematic character in general. There is very little about the character that appeals to those who are not comic fans already. Despite some outstanding stories in recent years, the core premise is just too corny to appeal to those not already indoctrinated.
It’s crap like this that makes me fear what sort of mess Joss Whedon will make of the Avengers – Cheap effects, generic photography and expository dialog galore. Thankfully Nolan’s third Batman film will be out to redeem the genre, again.
