Each week, I check Diamond’s “product changes” list, and most of the time, it’s nothing too noteworthy. “This hardcover will be 240 pages instead of 236 pages.” But occasionally there’s something on there that’s a real bummer. Case in point, today’s news that June’s Fear Itself: Deadpool #1 would have a new cover.
The original cover, by Ryan Stegman, looked like this:
Hilarious, right? The image even fueled part of my line of questioning in my interview with Fear Itself: Deadpool writer Christopher Hastings. The new cover, also by Stegman, follows (sorry the imagine isn’t bigger):
If the change was made because Marvel got skittish about the legality of the parody, that probably doesn’t leave much hope for Stegman’s cover of #2 (MC Hammer and Gallagher are both no strangers to lawsuits):
The cover for August’s #3, released today, looks like it’ll probably be safe, though:
Unless there’s a public figure out there that looks like a walrus and is known for sitting on people. In which case, how did you evade me up until now, public figure that looks like a walrus and is known for sitting on people?

It’s the Disney-fication of Marvel. Big pockets make big targets. And lawyers love targets. They don’t care who wins – they only care about the filings and settlings…

The Walrus, who took his costumed identity from THE BEATLES? Can’t imagine there’d be any worry of lawsuit there.
