MIA: Tomasi and Gleason’s Batman and Robin

Something interesting about this month’s Batman and Robin solicitation: The absence, again, of Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. Originally announced as the ongoing team to replace Grant Morrison with #17, Tomasi and Gleason’s opening arc got bumped to #20 to allow them both more time to work on Brightest Day. But then, after their initial three issues were done, they were replaced on the title by Judd Winick, Greg Tocchini and Guillem March for an arc, and now, it seems by David Hine and Tocchini. Has Batman and Robin become the new Batman Confidential/Legends of The Dark Knight revolving creative team series without an announcement, or has something happened to Tomasi and Gleason that we should be worried about?

Isn’t this just typical of the comic book industry in general these days? With a few exceptions, I don’t feel like creators these days really care about getting a product out on a regular schedule or as announced.

I’m guessing since the DC Universe is going to “change forever” after Flashpoint ends, they wanted to have they’re stories to start in the fall. I’m betting this is why they pulled Batwoman again so it could start in September. I wouldn’t be surprised if DC has a big push starting in September.

I’ve been seeing this coming for a while – and have been wondering what the Hell DC can actually be thinking, leaving fans wondering for this long. Simply put – I dropped the book. And I was really excited to read these guy’s issues. I might have stuck it out if there had been an announcement, of some sort, of when they where coming back. But with nothing – I can’t afford to buy a title “hoping” that the creative team I want to read are going to suddenly appear. DC really did have the opportunity to keep such an amazing title going strong – but their lack of communication with fans have totally done them in. And I for one have been thinking this since Winick’s run was announced. Finally everyone else is caught up – and maybe can finally rouse a response from DC on the matter.

I am really worried DC is going to turn into Marvel after the summer. Constant number 1′s and renumberings.
