Marvel Shows Coming to Netflix Instant Starting This Week

April 28th, 2011
Author Albert Ching

Start planning your ’90s X-Men cartoon marathon: Marvel shows are coming to Netflix Watch Instantly, with nostalgia on demand.

The first crop, launching on Friday, includes recent projects like the Spider-Woman, Iron Man: Extremis and Astonishing X-Men motion comics; plus the 1996-1997 Incredible Hulk cartoon, and the still-incomprehensible 1999-2001 series Spider-Man Unlimited (the one with all the animal people, excuse me, “Bestials”).

The real mother lode comes this summer, with the aforementioned ’90s X-Men cartoon being joined by the ’90s Spider-Man series, X-Men Evolution, ’60s Spider-Man, the first season of the current Disney XD program Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the always-beloved Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and more. In the fall, more ’60s stuff.

The full release list, direct from Marvel.com, is after the jump.

Neat! Wanna check out more of the 60s cartoons, I’ve only seen the Spider-Man series. And I loved that syndicated Spidey cartoon from the 80s (the one without Amazing Friends) so I’ll be revisiting that too. Great theme song!

I might be the only one, but I was hoping for the live-action 70s Spider-Man. Not sure how true this is, but I read a few years ago that an official release of that is extremely unlikely because a) someone high up at Marvel hates it, and/or b) it no longer exists in a releasable format.

This is great news. But why can’t the Thing Ring do it’s thing on Netflix streaming?

    60′s Spidey FTW! Sweet.

I’d like to watch the 70′s live-action Spidey again too, just for laughs. I can’t imagine it being much better than Challenge of the Superheroes, but I did watch it as a kid.

I can imagine the show not being well-loved by the folks at Marvel, so it’s probably like the WB/FOX fighting over the Adam West Batman series.

As for it not being in a releasable format… I doubt that. A few of episodes were released on VHS years ago. What would’ve happened that the show isn’t releasable? Whether or not anyone would actually want to watch it for more than an episode or two, is another question entirely.

Actually I have seen The Amazing Spider-man from the 70′s and it holds up pretty well. The costume is cheesy but otherwise a good show, definitely much better than challenge of the superheroes. It’s floating around the internet and for sale on http://www.ioffer.com .
