Etsy Made Me Do It: Doctor Who

The sixth season of the longest running sci-fi show on television is premiering Saturday on BBC America (concurrent with the UK!). I’m speaking of course about Doctor Who. Once a week I sift through the millions of Etsy listings to find the best in geek chic for Blog@ readers. And I’ve been waiting patiently to do this one. Last week I found some wacky Portal related objects on the crafting site but this time around, it’s all about the Doctor. And his companions. And his enemies. And the TARDIS. Yes, it’s a special extended edition of Etsy Made Me Do It. (I apologize to your wallets in advance.)

Without further ado…ALLONS-Y!

There’s been a lot of Doctor Who novelization over the last 47 years, not to mention a good number of DVD releases. Well how would you like to hold them up in style with these Doctor Who bookends? They’re pretty epic if you ask me. User TheophilusSaxe made them out of hard engineering-grade plaster with a resin TARDIS and felt bottom. Just $49.99. Or, if you’d prefer just to stare at something awesome that serves no other purpose, check out his Doctor Who dioramas: Ice Box, Knock knock who’s there, and Boxed Lunch, $19.99 each.

The Doctor may only have one “life” but he’s got 13 regenerations (at least). Collect all 11 so far with this set of Doctor Who regenerations peg people. User RandomlyGenerated has a few other characters separately or paired off but you can own all 11 for $100.

There’s a large segment of Whovians who love needlework and not only that, they love creating Doctor Who items! Well now, they’ve got somewhere to keep their yarn and other materials. User BagEndBags created this Doctor Who Project Bag which could be yours for $20.

Do you want K-9 Cufflinks? Affirmative! Made by user TheCrossings, these cufflinks will be faithful to the end. $30.

A mouse dressed up like Amy Pond? Why *don’t* I need one of those?  Some people may think I’m strange but I don’t care. This is precious. The Amy Pond Mouse is $35 from user TheHouseOfMouse.

Hello sweetie. How do the Doctor and River Song keep their relationship sans spoilers? River’s TARDIS Journal of course! User anticovalore makes these 160 page, leather-bound journals to order for $45. And you thought your love life was confusing.

Tea has saved the day before on Doctor Who. You should be drinking it daily just in case. And why not drink it out of this Bow Ties Are Cool Mug? User BugsAndMonsters will sell you one for $17. And the best part? It says “Bow Ties Are Cool” on the opposite side of the glass.

Don’t blink. Blink and you’re dead. From one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes of all time comes one of my favorite Doctor Who quotes of all time. And someone made this necklace out of it. The Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey ….Stuff – Aluminum Spiral Pendant from user foxwise is $17.95. It’s also available as a cuff bracelet and a ring.

It’s a British Police Box Tee Shirt Dress. Do I really need to say more? $30 from user raygunrobyn. This design is also available as a regular t-shirt, hoodie or tote bag.

As I mentioned, there’s a lot of Doctor Who fans who LOVE to crochet, knit, etc. Well I’ve never seen a Crocheted Dalek Plushie quite like this. It’s the details that make it extra special. From user scarywhitegirl, $30. She also has a TARDIS plushie for $60 and a Doctor Who Scarf Coffee Cozy for $8.

And because I’m really evil (and couldn’t narrow down the list of awesome stuff I found) here are a few more Doctor Who items you may want to check out.

Starry TARDIS Night – $700 from DeirJohn
Doctor Who Van Gogh Button – $4.50 from Caffrin25
Doctor Who 4 foot TARDIS vinyl decal – $39.99 from videogamedecals
Police Box Earrings Stud/Post – $14.95 from CsCharms
Dalek Plush Baby Toy, Set of Five - $60 from fassbaby
TARDIS Hand Towel – $6 from shaebaby
Tribute to Doctor Who the Seal of Rassilon Necklace – $27 from TheCrossings
Doctor Who Six Pack of Cards – $20 from rakkadeer
Doctor Who Pendant Bundle – $33 from sweetgeek
Dalek Perler Frame – $16 from yumeleona23
TARDIS Handmade Ceramic Coin Bank – $63 from jadeflower
Kawaii Doctor and Amy Earrings – $5 from Lovelyruthie
TARDIS soap – $12.50 from soaplane

As always, bear in mind, since Etsy is a craft website and not a commercial, mass-market dealer, items are almost always one-of-a-kind or in very limited availability. When you see something you like, buy it. It may not be there the next time you surf round. (Yes, it’s a very dangerous site for your wallet.) Also, since most items are created individually, many sellers are willing to customize something specifically to suit your needs. Just ask!
