It's true, it appears that all or most of the past, archived articles have none of the images loaded anymore. This really dilutes the reading experience for articles involving costume/fashion, and according to comments posted by other readers, it seems it’s been an issue for the past several months. I wonder if the website administrators look into this glitch? I’d love to be able to read the style articles of Iron Man, Dr Strange, etc and be able to see what the writer is referring to. Thanks so much. I love this blog.

The pictures in your columns are disappearing. I keep getting a 404 error? It's a lot less fun without the visual reference.

"Geoff Johns generally can’t write women well at all. The modern SS costume is just a symptom of that."

Yeah, the writing all over that costume really bothers me too...

Carol is no Emma Frost and I think she never should have even been a Star Sapphire in the first place.Something extremely forced about the whole thing. Star Sapphire Wonder Woman was ridiculous and useless too.

I meant to ask, Alan, did you ever see the bare-chested costume worn by the original Tattooed Man in the early Seventies (I think the debut was JLA #111)? I kinda liked it, though his sailor look is best.

@Adam: Of course, how silly of me to forget they don't like to be called villains. :P I do agree that their costumes do fit their character and motif very well. I'd go as far to say they have the best costumes of any villains of any comic book hero ever.

I can't decide what is more appalling, the sheer ugliness of the costume itself or the mysogyny inherent in the overgrown fanboys who created it.

Why the hullabaloo over Carol Ferris? She's showing as much as Superman & Batman do in a way.

I like the furor over Star Sapphire's current look nonehteless I'd like to think of this for a nanosecond.
All I can see in my mind's eye is a Neal Adams BATMAN and a "Swanderson" SUPERMAN.
And they're colored in flesh toned Bat- & Super Suits.

Alan: while this is a lot of fun, don'tcha think you coulda preceded this with something on the Green Lantern Corps costumes themselves? They did evolve over time for Hal, and some of the variations would be worthy of note.

i think that i don't want to see the sinestro corps in GL2 simply because it's not the right time for it to make its movie debut because the pieces aren't there yet. The relationship between Hal Jordan and sinestro is underdeveloped at best and 2-3 movies away from being at that right time to do sinestro corps.
I think these guys should be apart of some of the corps as new members or such.

Even though I don't like the new star sapphire because i think it goes past looking sexy to looking slutty, I'm willing to accept it on a few conditions.
1. it fits the character.
2. it isn't the de facto outfit for the sapphires.
3. characters under 17 don't wear something this bare.
The first and second kind of go together because i don't want it to be the de fact outfit for the sapphires since i don't believe every sapphire has the same view of her self that carol does. So the outfit should be tailored to the character. For example Barbara Gordon or Stephanie brown would not wear that outfit because they are more self conscious about their bodies than Carol Ferris. I do agree with Jocutus over Miri Raum's
The third is because i have a pet peeve when i see teenagers or kids sexualized.there is a time and a place.

I asked Ivan Reis and Ethan Van Sciver at a con once why they (+ Pat Gleason) decided that the Star Sapphires would get this sort of a remake when the rest of the emotional spectrum got the slick body suits, and they said that they talked with previous GL artists and they said Star Sapphires were supposed to be intergalactic dominatrices, so they ran with that idea. I still don't really like the look though, too tarty. Poor Carol :(

It's interesting...I've been a rabid GL fan since childhood and haven't missed an issue since I came back to funnybooks in 2001.
But this is the issue when I realized GL had jumped the shark.
I stopped purchasing the newest FLASH as well, then I knew that Geoff Johns was "phoning them in" so to peak...all respect to Geoff Johns of course he's entertained me since FLASH in '01 but iDigress...

http://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/covers/1284086652_cvr.jpg
GL issue #57 cover. My greatest critique is that after all the bon mots, Mahnke has a hard time drawing feet!
now I didn't buy #57 because I felt the cover was sexist (and as Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap would respond, "what's wrong with being sexy?")...I didn't buy it because I was tired of where the story was or wasn't going! Just that a 21st Century cheesecake via bondage couldn't even get me to buy a title I've got all of!
For instance, the Daniel Acuna issues #18-20 where Hal's "current" girlfriend Cowgirl & Carol are both skimpy Star Saphhires then left in the buff ? I mean that was a great example of cheesecakey-goodness! Beautifully rendered pretty women? Skimpy outfits?? We're talking funnybooks here? Frank Cho? Art Adams? J. Scott Campbell?
(PS tonally & thematically, currently Green Lantern does not hold a candle to early in the series when Johns started after REBIRTH...I've been reading GL's #18-20 as I'm writing this and the dialog is "sexier" than the Acuna art if you can believe it? GL went from being a Cosmic Cop to a Continuity Cop)

I'm fine with the Star Sapphire outfit. Hell I hope they make it shorter just so it can offend more people. The whole not buying the issue because of the cover aspect is laughable. I've been collecting comics for over 25 years and I've never heard anyone at anyone point utter issue protest over a skimpy outfit cover. Like I said make it shorter so it can offend more people so I can laugh at them.

Michael Huff:"Only a gay guy would say such bad things about Star Sapphire’s outfit. There are men in this world who love super villains who look like strippers. As lame as you think that is."

Well, I'm a straight guy, and I hate the Star Sapphire costume.I also don't like super villains who look like strippers.

There is a fine line between sexy and sleazy, and Star Sapphire has definitely steeped over it. Let me put it this way, I've seen covers of HUSTLER that were in better taste. Star Sapphire's costume has got to go.

MICHAEL HUFF: I'm not gay and don't care for you implication that being gay is a negative thing.

BRIAN HUFF: I think Project Rooftop does a pretty good job with that on their own site. But if my artists friends are up for donating some time, perhaps we'll do something like that in the future.
