Deadline is reporting that Kyle Chandler is being “courted” for the lead role in FX’s TV adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s creator-owned series Powers — presumably as Christian Walker, a detective on the superpowered homicide beat.
The report says Chandler hasn’t committed to the project yet, and is waiting to see a new script — one which is expected to incorporate the actor’s notes. Deadline also reports FX president John Landgraf as saying Powers is a “contender” for an early 2012 launch. Chandler recently wrapped up his five-season run as coach Eric Taylor on the unanimously acclaimed NBC series Friday Night Lights.
Is Chandler right for the role? Let us know your thoughts either way. (Like we had to ask.)

He’s totally right for the role. Not to mention one of the better actors on TV for his understated performances. If FX lands him, they’ll have hit it out of the park.

While he’s been good in earlier work I’ve seen him in, I didn’t watch Friday Night Lights.
Powers character Walker has an edge to him. It’s kinda buried, but it feels like its in there. Especially once you learn more about him in later arcs.
I’m not sure Chandler can bring that across.
Can he?

Chandler can do it – he’d be great.

Maybe it’s me, but I have my eye on Holt McCallany. He’s been working hard on “Lights Out” (in addition to everything else he’s done in the past twenty years) and now that the cancellation is official, FX would be a fool to let this guy go.

Holt McCallany is a good choice…but a somewhat better choice would be Tahmoh Penikett. He’s almost got the look of “Walker”, and he rocked hard as “Helo” on BSG. Plus, if they did sign Katee Sackhoff as “Deena Pilgrim”, how cool would it be to see “Starbuck” and “Helo” back on TV together!!!

Not to nitpick but it hasn’t been “NBC’s Friday Night Lights” for a couple of seasons. Direct TV took it over once NBC cancelled it. As you were.

ABSOLUTELY YES! This guy will be perfect. I’ve seen him in a lot of different roles. He can do it justice!

Chandler is perfect. As to the concerns about him being able to pull off an edge watch some of Friday Night Lights, his coach Taylor can chill you with a single look, and it’s a sharp contrast considering the character is a generally affable guy.

I love Chandler, but my concern is that he’s not big enough. Walker is supposed to be huge, as evidenced when Pilgrim thinks his large size indicates he has powers. Chandler would have to bulk up alot. A guy like Holt McCallany already is pretty big.

Tahmoh Penikett was built yes, but he is not a good actor. And why should FX cast the guy from Lights Out when that just got cancelled? Kyle Chandler is a star and perfect for this. Katee Sackhoff as Deena Pilgrim would be AWESOME though.

Kyle Chandler is a great actor so have faith he could pull this off. Allison Mack from Smallville would be a good choice for Deena Pilgrim.

Chandler is terrific, they’d be lucky to have him. Unfortunately if my experience is any indication a lot of comic readers passed on FNL.

@Matt: I hope that’s not the case. FNL was one of the best shows on NBC. It’s worth everyone’s time to rent the DVD’s.

Not sure! Agree with Chris though, Smallville’s Allison Mack would be perfect as Deena!! Girl can act!

Hey as long as he gets to play an important role. Chandler is amazing.

It’d be funny if FX casted Allison Mack as Deena Pilgrim and then Tom Welling as Christian Walker.

I’m not too sure about Kyle Chandler as Christian Walker, but maybe he’ll do okay and think Allison Mack from Smallville would be perfect as Deena Pilgrim

He’s not at all who first comes to mind, but he could carry the role. I can easily see him as a cop, but not a cape… which is a bit of a problem for this series. On the plus side, he’s a proven leading man, and he’ll be ‘hot’ coming off of “Super 8″ – which should build some good buzz for POWERS.
