How many things in life do we buy and get nothing back from it? There are plenty of second prints and trades for people who just want the story. Collecting certainly doesn't stop people from reading comics and vice versa. There is no binary relationship here. I read comics and don't collect them. But I know people that do collect. It's doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the medium. Comics should have a big enough "tent" to offer a place for both readers and collectors.
