DC Announces Eight FLASHPOINT Miniseries Creative Teams (Continually Updated!)

March 4th, 2011
Author Albert Ching

DC Comics turned some heads when they announced in late January that their upcoming crossover story Flashpoint would have 14 miniseries tie-ins, and today they’re ready to reveal the creative teams for eight of those miniseries on their official blog The Source, starting with a very familiar duo taking on Flashpoint: Batman, Knight of Vengeance. Cover images and information is after the jump, and keep checking this space, as DC’s letting details of these teams slip at a pace of roughly one per hour.

Update 5:05 EST: Enter, the LEGION OF DOOM

FLASHPOINT: LEGION OF DOOM
Covers: Miguel Sepulveda
Writer: Adam Glass
Art: Rodeny Buchemi & Jose Marzan

Tagline: Whatever Happened to the World’s Greatest Supervillains?

Update 4:10 EST: More Aquaman? Sure, have some more Aquaman!

FLASHPOINT: EMPEROR AQUAMAN
Covers: Ardian Syaf & Vicente Cifuentes
Writer: Tony Bedard
Art: Ardian Syaf & Vicente Cifuentes

Tagline: He will drown the world… THEN RULE IT!

Update 3:20 EST: Hey, have another mini written by a DC Editor!

FLASHPOINT: WORLD OF FLASHPOINT
Covers: Shane Davis
Writer: Rex Ogle
Art: Paulo Siquiera

And your tagline is simply: Discover the World of Flashpoint

Update 2 p.m. EST: And another!

FLASHPOINT: HAL JORDAN
Covers: Rags Morales
Writer: Adam Schlagman
Art: Ben Oliver

Tagline for this one: “He never got the ring.”

Update 1:06 p.m. EST: We’ve got another!

FLASHPOINT: DEADMAN & THE FLYING GRAYSONS
Covers: Cliff Chiang
Writer: JT Krul
Art: Mikel Janin

Well, that’s certainly a fun cover. Tagline for this one is “For their last performance-an escape act!”

Original story: Here’s the first crop:

FLASHPOINT: BATMAN, KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE
Covers: Dave Johnson
Writer: Brian Azzarello
Art: Eduardo Risso

Yep. It’s the 100 Bullets team reunited, and note the dice — remember that “He spends his days running Wayne Casinos” teaser? Tagline: “THE KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE.”

FLASHPOINT: CITIZEN COLD
Covers: Scott Kolins
Writer: Scott Kolins
Art: Scott Kolins

That’s a lot of Scott Kolins! Obviously he’s got vast experience working with Captain Cold proper in the pages of Flash over the years. Tagline: “He loves someone he shouldn’t.”

FLASHPOINT: DEATHSTROKE & THE CURSE OF THE RAVAGER
Covers: Joe Bennett & John Dell
Writer: Jimmy Palmiotti
Art: Joe Bennett & John Dell

Palmiotti and Bennett worked together a while back on Hawkman . Also, arrr! Deathstroke’s a pirate! To drive the point home, tagline: “He will stop at nothing to find his lost treasure!”

  1. Paul Allen Says:

Hate to be that correction guy, but Scott Kolins wrote the Solomon Grundy mini-series, Superman/Batman 66 & 67, and the end of the Magog series.

  2. Slacker Says:

Well, I suppose this is Kolins’ writing debut … if you don’t count his JSA special, the final two issues of Magog, a Superman/Batman storyline with Joe Casey. Yeah, so I guess THIS would be his writing debut. Sheesh.

I am looking forward to the comic though. :)

  3. Jack Tango Says:

re: Scott Kollins “…this looks to be his solo writing debut”

Actually, he wrote the Solomon Grundy 7 issue limited series, as well as a few issues of Magog.

  4. Jack Tango Says:

Hooray for not refreshing in time.

  5. Slacker Says:

Jack, it’s all good, at least it shows there’s some love out there for Kolins … as well as showing that a news-site — even one that reports on “just” comics — should still have a fact-checker around.

  6. derp Says:

is that he-man’s sword deathstroke is holding?

  7. Simon DelMonte Says:

    Let’s see…

Not a Brian Azz fan at all.

    Not a big Palmiotti fan.

Jury’s out on Krul and Kolins as writers. Love Kolins’ art, though.

But so far I am saving money, if nothing else.

  8. Will Says:

Well, I for one am loving the Deadman and the Flying Graysons book! It will be interesting to see how Dick Grayson’s life will have changed if he was raised by his birth family, and not Bruce.

  9. Albert Ching Says:

Apologies for the Kolins error — I’m a big fan of his and I can’t believe I forgot those comics. Post has been edited. Though he did spell my name “Albert Chang” in a sketch he did for me once, so maybe I was subconsciously trying to get even. :)

  10. AeroRep Says:

Once again have to ask the maddening question “Who’s in the Batman book, Batman or Nightwing?” As far as Kolins the writer goes, pass, but will check out anything with Ravager in it.

  11. Kevin T. Brown Says:

AeroRep, I suspect Ravager is the name of Deathstroke’s ship. Especially if he is a pirate.

  12. RLM Says:

    Interesting looking stories..
kind of like, I don’t know

Marvel’s “What If” series, or DC’s Elseworlds. Or a remake of Armageddon..need I go on.

How about some original ideas once a decade

  13. Randy House Says:

This goes for anything posted on any site. I love how some moron will read something and then just post, not interested, blah, blah, blah. If you aren’t interested, then why did you read the article. I’m glad you’re saving money, your mommy won’t be around for ever and EVENTUALLY they will catch you squating in her house and stealing her social security checks. LOSERS

  14. Devin Says:

Deadman and The Flying Graysons seems to be the one of most interest to me. Krul is kinda hit or miss though.

  15. Lester Says:

Seems like a lot of mini-series but I admit seeing Rags Morales on FLASHPOINT: HAL JORDAN made me very excited (huge mark for his art). The Deadman/Grayson’s one looks awesome.

  16. The_Qu Says:

Deadman and Batman have me interested. Maybe Aquaman. World of Flashpoint might if it is a wide look at the world, and not focused on one story.

  17. AeroRep Says:

Kevin T. Brown, maybe you’re right about Ravager being the name of his ship, although not using Rose herself in some capacity seems like a wasted opportunity. These stories ARE more and more starting to have an elseworlds feel to them, which for me will diminish my interest.

  18. Steve Says:

8 mini-series? Flashpoint just got out of hand.

  19. Radiodad Says:

Well, since they’re stories of a different reality, I don’t see why they wouldn’t feel like Elseworlds stories. ;) I like alternate histories, though, so this is up my alley. YMMV.

  20. Charles Ingalls' Pal Merlin Olsen! Says:

Have to say I’ll most likely sit most if not all of this out due mostly to budget….too many books for me to get. May get one or two if I can swing ‘em. Emperor Aquaman, Citizen Cold, and Legion Of Doom look cool. Most likely will stick to the main Flashpoint storyline.

  21. Kelson Says:

Steve, where have you been? DC announced it would have 15 related miniseries *weeks* ago. It’s even mentioned in the article you’re replying to.

    That said…

Of this batch, I’m looking at Citizen Cold & Legion of Doom (gotta read the Rogues), and I’ve got to admit that Deathstroke as a pirate has a strange appeal.

Looking forward to the creative team on “Kid Flash Lost.” Next Friday, perhaps?

  22. Tim Says:

good grief, these images don’t look all that enticing

  23. Dennis Roy Says:

The article mentions 14 Flashpoint miniseries, although by my count there have been 17 different titles announced in different news articles. Granted, some of these may be the same and have had title changes. Titles not mentioned in this article:

    * Abin Sur the Green Lantern #1-3 (replaced by Hal Jordan #1-3 ?)
    * Frankenstein & The Creatures of the Unknown #1-3
    * Kid Flash Lost #1-3
    * Lois Lane & The Resistance #1-3
    * Project Superman #1-3
    * S!H!A!Z!A!M! (or possibly, “S.H.A.Z.A.M. Agents”) #1-3
    * Secret Seven #1-3
    * The Outsider #1-3
    * Wonder Woman & The Furies #1-3

  24. Rich Says:

So I guess the days of ‘small’ miniseries are over big time! Does DC really expect fans to buy all this stuff? AND ‘War of the Green Lanterns’! I aam going to try and just stick to the main series hopefully it they will be understandable WITHOUT all the extra titles

  25. axonrey Says:

I’m guessing Batman is Bruce Wayne, since he runs Wayne Casinos, and Dick Grayson is featured in another book unrelated to Batman (someone asked about this). This whole thing seems like the current plot of Wonder Woman, but across the whole DCU. So, it’s “real” it’s just not permanent. But I agree that that seems just as comparable to an Elseworlds type deal.

  26. Mike Says:

AeroRep, don’t you know, EVERYONE is Batman.

    Batman’s not a character. He’s a logo!

    It’s real easy…

Bruce Wayne is the Batman, if the Batman has a yellow oval and a zipper on his cod-piece.

Damian Wayne is the Batman, if the story is set in an imaginary future that no one will remember once the real future comes.

Leslie Thompkins is the Batman, if the Batman has woman’s breasts.

Jason Todd, who is alive, again, because Batman is all realistic and stuff, is the Batman, but only privately, behind locked doors, in his own bedroom, when he’s feeling randy. It’s a fetish. Don’t judge.

Alfred is the Batman, if all the other Batmen are off that day.

Dick Grayson is never the Batman, but they call him the Batman in all the other comics.

  27. akachris Says:

Based on the 2nd cover [for Emperor Aquaman] and the 3rd cover [for World of Flashpoint], it appears that Wonder Woman cut off Aquaman’s trident shaft…if you know what I’m talking about.

  28. jedispyder Says:

I see a lot of people complaining about there being too many mini-series for Flashpoint, but from what I hear in the rumor mill these will be handled akin to Age of Apocalypse. So DC will put several titles on hiatus for 3 months while these issues come out. Nothing official has been stated but I’m guessing we’ll find out once the solicits appear.

  29. aswell Says:

Whelp the comics future for the near future for me anyway will be Flashpoint. As Marvel has pretty much shut me out 100% from their offerings barring a miracle with Bendis’ Moon Knight.

Curse of the Ravager looks stupid. Deathstroke meets Pirates of the Carribbean? At least JT Skrul isn’t writing it.

Count me in for Legion of Doom and the main series. It would be great if they focused more on Professor Zoom and left out the rest. After all he’s the main player here.

They’re trying to make Aquaman bad-ass like Wolverine he’s being portrayed as that bloodthirsty villain/hero/whatever his allegiance is in this story.

  30. KEITH LEM Says:

Sorry DC, not interested. Too much! Much too much. Alternate time-line has been done too death…Nothing new here move on…

  31. wooot Says:

Alternate time-lines have been done before, but this is something unique. It doesnt take place on a different earth, or in a different time. This is the main universe being completely changed by one man: Reverse Flash. And Barry is going to be the only one who knows that everything has changed. Im definitely interested and will be picking up the main title as well as Emperor Aquaman, Batman, and probably the Deadman one too. Also, please dont compare Aquaman to that overrated character (Wolverine). I mean they are trying to make him bad ass, but is that a problem? Would you rather have Aquaman just talk to fish the whole time? Also, he appears to be a villain in this series. so obviously he is going to come off as a bad-ass.

  32. comic_dude Says:

DC sucks because of Didio… >:-(

  33. comic_dude Says:

Oh and the only vaguely interesting concept being explored here is Aquaman as a villain though that will probably be just as inconsistently and poorly executed like everything else at DC these days.

  34. Michael Says:

Finally something new from DC Too bad Marvel does not care about their comics

  35. Deco Says:

this seems like an interesting event, but the creative teams aren’t too exciting. I smell editorial all over this — and while that isn’t necessarily a bad thing (hard to judge ahead of time) it usually means something that seems cool from a distance, but isn’t always so compelling once you crack the covers. Jury’s out AFAIK but I’m ready to pass on the whole thing (just dropped out of war of the green lanterns for e.g.). And if you’re saying “so what? who cares what you think?” – ok, true for you – but I spend more than $100 p/week on comics, so I’m pretty much one of those guys who’s keeping all y’all comics pubs going… just sayin’

  36. hondobrode Says:

I think this is more than just alternative universes. It’s going to be part of the multiverse We’ll see.

I’m loving what I’ve heard and getting them all.

  37. saint fu Says:

is it just me, or is Deathstroke holding the sword of eternia?

  38. Casaloki Says:

Too much stuff to follow, DC. And: Aquaman is looking like Nazi Aquaman and Deathstroke is looking like Lobo with a He-Man sword. No, thanks. The other stuff is not interesting enough at this moment. Maybe Legion of Doom or Deadman. But thats it. I hope, the LSH is unaffected this time, we had to many versions the last decades.

  39. Murphy Says:

How long have cover artists been receiving top billing in the credits?

  40. Catman Says:

Well GodBless digital comics and Taringa y 9va dimesnsion.

    Cheers from Guatemla City.

  41. Catman Says:

para todos los fans de comics por ahi de Guate u otro pais, dejo mi facebook. http://www.facebook.com/guz.molina

  42. Fazhoul Says:

It looks like I will be saving a LOT of money this summer. None of these titles have any interest for me and if they really are going to be putting titles on hiatus during the Flashpoint event, then I’ll be saving even MORE money!

  43. Black Manta Says:

    More Aquaman, count me in.
