“Powers” greenlit for pilot on FX!

Looks like your TV could get a lot more powerful.

Confirmed on both his Twitter and Facebook page, Brian Michael Bendis announced that his and Michael Oeming creator-owned series, Powers, was greenlit for a pilot on FX. No word yet on a time frame or any specifics, other than the project will be written by Charles H. Eglee and directed by Michael Dinner.

Powers tells the story of detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, that were devoted to special investigations dealing with crimes based about “powers” or super-powered individuals. The series was originally published by Image from 2000-2004, and later moved to its current home at Marvel’s Icon imprint.

The series is being co-produced by Sony and FX Productions.

So, Rama readers, what do you think of this development?

  4. KK Says:

Didn’t they try to get this off the ground a few years ago, but it got stuck in development hell? glad to hear it’s making progress

  5. Devin Says:

Love Powers! Katee Sackhoff for Deena Pilgrim.

  6. JMark Says:

Sorry but “Birds of Prey” was far from being forgetable. My wife and I watched every episode and were disappointed when it was cancelled.

  7. Gslentino Says:

Can not wait for this. LOVE Powers

  8. Red Hood Says:

Say it with me and Devin people….Katee Sackhoff, Katee Sackhoff. She said on her twitter she’s thinking of going for it. What does everyone think of Tahmoh Penikett? He’s got Walkers jawline down?

It’s a cartoon, right? When it was first optioned, a long time ago, it was. Is this still the case? However it may turn out, I don’t think it would be successful. It will be what Ultimate Avengers was to the Ultimates – watered down, with an art style that somewhat resembles the comic artist’s work.

  10. Dangersmith Says:

I also wondered if it would be animated or live-action. I think it’s reasonable to assume that it’s live-action. Katie Sackhoff as Pilgrim is a great casting idea. And NO, I don’t agree that it would be ‘watered-down’… maybe if it were on NBC or ABC… but anyone who’s watched anything on FX knows that they favor harder edged programs. So I’m confident and happy for Bendis and Oeming.

I understand that there is a head writer and writing team, because well, that’s how television works…but why, on this stupid people infested planet, is Bendis NOT writing the pilot!?

SPOILER ALERT, STOP READING IF YOU DON’T WANT IT SPOILED.

It’s a fine series, even if it reached a sort-of wall in the character development, and then moved on to several “jump the shark” moments (largely when a major superhero went nuts and attacked the world, then Walker met a Satan-esque character, and then when Walker acquired his Lantern-esque suit). The series seems strong in keeping the viewpoint of “normal cops trying to cope in a world of powers”, even though the two primary characters now have powers. It reminds me of the “Preacher” comic series, where the main character’s power was seldom used; that’s how the main characters in “Powers” use their powers now.

I’m going to keep reading. That’s just about the only important judgment one can make about a comic series. Will you keep reading it? Yes, I will.

I recognize the spread and strength after being informed this. 1 year I was quite effortless got this information, and new now I get it. Good luck to you. and thank you.
