It’s official. We have our live-action Wonder Woman. Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki has been chosen to embody Princess Diana in David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot on NBC.
Twenty-seven year old Palicki, who also starred in Supernatural and the film Legion, stands a lofty 5’11″ tall. The news came just late this evening courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter.
Oddly enough, Palicki had a brush with DC Comics before. She was in an episode of Smallville but was also cast as Siren in the Aquaman television pilot that was never picked up.
In high school, the actress played basketball and ran track so it’s likely she’ll be able to keep up with the physicality of the role. Palicki can be seen next in the remake of Red Dawn with Thor star Chris Hemsworth.
Updated: And here’s an image of Palicki with dark hair from the swiftly cancelled “Lone Star”.
Well, what do you think Newsarama readers?

Sounds like a good pick to me. I like that she has some athletic experience. Let’s hope that the popularity that the superhero genre has shown wont be shunned by TV audiences and leave us stuck with shows like “The Cape.”
February 16th, 2011 at 8:53 pm
Can’t remember her in Supernatural, but she better be DAMN good! Once she dyes her hair she’d look the part, let’s just hope she can act.
February 16th, 2011 at 8:58 pm
I was hoping for Sarah Lancaster.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:21 pm
isnt wonder woman supposed to be brunette? and greek?
February 16th, 2011 at 10:51 pm
Tommy, not sure if you’ve heard, there’s this amazing thing called “hair dye.” Works wonders for millions of people.
February 17th, 2011 at 12:03 am
Let’s hope that she’s got rid of the mole on her forehead she was sporting in Supernatural…
February 17th, 2011 at 1:02 am
@JoeMD, she was Sam’s girlfriend from the very first episode. I wouldn’t really say she starred in Supernatural.
She did, however, star in Friday Night Lights for 3 seasons, which is how most people know her. She was also in the the much praised and quickly canceled Lone Star this season.
And I believe she’s dating Alan Tudyk aka Wash from Firefly or Alpha from Dollhouse.
February 17th, 2011 at 2:50 am
Seriously, Tommy? “brunette? and greek?” SERIOUSLY?
1a. Hair dye.
1b. Does that hair look truly blond to you anyway?
2. Have you seen Wonder Woman in the comics? Or a cartoon? Have you seen Linda Carter? They have NEVER actively made Wonder Woman look Greek.
February 17th, 2011 at 3:16 am
George Perez sort of made WW Greek looking. Then again, he also made her interesting.
Which is neither here nor there.
As for Ms Palicki, I’ve never seen her in anything besides that long ago guest spot on SPN. I wish her luck with what is bound to be a tough job.
February 17th, 2011 at 6:23 am
Scary that so many commenters here haven’t seen Friday Night Lights. If you had, you wouldn’t be worried about her acting ability. She was terrific in that show.
February 17th, 2011 at 7:31 am
Please please let this be a good show. Maybe a possible Smallville “crossover” in the future since Smallville is done after this year?
February 17th, 2011 at 8:11 am
Thank god she’s not muscular! lean and strong! great decolletage. she’s not so Greek looking, but also not so hammy-american cheer-leader looking either.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:23 am
Having read Scott Tipton’s analysis of the Wonder Woman script, pardon me if the casting is the least of my worries. The whole concept is flawed.

I agree with The Commander about the concept being flawed (though that might be a bit of an understatement). I also don’t think that Adrianne Palicki is right for the role of WW. And it’s not because of hair color or anything like that. I’m familiar with her from her time on Friday Night Lights and I just don’t see her as WW.
February 17th, 2011 at 9:32 am
If WW is going to look Greek, they better use that hair dye on her upper lip.
February 17th, 2011 at 9:32 am
Hey, I am from Greece! How do you people think women look over here btw? Why do some people claim she is not Greek-looking?

Part 2:
Here are some picture of Greek actresses to make a comparison

Plus, Jennifer Aniston and Melina Kanakarides are Greek you know
February 17th, 2011 at 9:46 am
It’s not Shakespeare, it’s Wonder Woman. How much acting talent does it really require? If she can complete sentences, that’s good enough. I’m more worried about the look, and that she has, so that’s okay with me.
Besides, if the script and treatment for the show are as bad as I hear (it’s been floating around the Internet for a while and has been roundly bashed by everyone who read it), her acting talent will be even more irrelevant.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:35 am
Hey Deep_Shock, we know what people from Greece look like…they are three apples high and blue. No, wait…that’s the Smurfs…
February 17th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
Saw her in the indie “Women In Trouble”. She’s pretty good.
February 17th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
She looks the part fine. I’m more worried about the script though, I hope they don’t turn WW into some angsty girl with boy troubles… that would really be dissapointing. But as always, I’m not passing my verdict ’till I see the actual show.
February 17th, 2011 at 4:11 pm
I’ve read the script. I actually liked it. I love how people are saying “the whole script ISN’T wonder woman!”
What is?
I mean they’ve changed EVERY comic characters demeanor and origin over the years a dozen times. Wonder Woman hasn’t been a viable (ie: selling) book in HOW long?
I for one am glad someone is taking a gamble making a non Xena version of her.
Plus, Palicki was amazing in Friday Night Lights.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:21 pm
Well, throw out my choice for Eve Torres (WWE Diva) out the window. Stupid hollywood either pick friends or have sex and you get the part. Second worse choice to Catwoman for female role.
February 17th, 2011 at 11:41 pm
Lynda Carter better be playing Queen Hippolyta.
February 18th, 2011 at 6:06 am
So everyone’s okay with Wonder Woman having horrendous implants?
February 18th, 2011 at 8:36 am
@Paul You’re a horrendous implant!
February 18th, 2011 at 8:51 am
Yeah? Well you’re fulla hamster flakes, JACK.
February 18th, 2011 at 9:12 am
Also, the picture in this story is exhibit A in the horrendous implants case: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48529

The key words are: Swifty Cancelled.
And remember the Bionic WOMAN and the Cape is gone just as quickly for another superhero show.
NBC wants comedic superheroes. The vibe you get from Blunder Woman?
They will reboot the film franchise in 5-6 years if there is going to be a crossover JLA movie with the rebooted post-Nolan Batman movies. Who knows though, Comic Superheroes might have gone out of fashion in Hollywood by then.
February 19th, 2011 at 9:47 pm
Adrianne is in the film Legion. If you want to see her acting in that, check it out. shes very, very good!
February 20th, 2011 at 9:54 am
I vote for Michelle Obama.
February 21st, 2011 at 10:03 pm
Let’s give her a chance. I am sure she will Be Great.Hope Lynda Carter play Queen Hippolyta!
