A month ago, Marion Cotillard announced her pregnancy, so in many fans eyes, that took her off the short list of potential femme fatales when it was announced back in November that The Dark Knight Rises (aka Batman 3) would have two female main characters. Well according to French news site, Le Figaro, that doesn’t seem to be stopping her at all.
In case you don’t speak French, I had Google Chrome help me out with that: “Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3″. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3.”
Now, it’s already speculated that she’ll portray Talia al Ghul, Ra’s al Ghul’s (Liam Neeson from Batman Begins) daughter, but nothing is confirmed so far, especially even if she has a role. Personally, Talia makes the most sense here as Nolan’s trilogy comes full circle. Sure, Catwoman/Selina Kyle, played by Anne Hathaway, is more of a lover, but Talia has always come across as a genuine threat. Could a cameo by Liam Neeson be in the works, too? What do you think, readers?
The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20th, 2012.

I have no idea who she is (what did she win an Oscar for?), but I’m just pleased to speculate that Talia might be part of the movie. Personally, I’d love to see Ra’s resurrected via the Lazarus Pit. I’m not sure whether or not Nolan would go there, however, but Talia makes perfect sense.
I just watched Batman Begins for the first time in quite awhile today (just got a Blu-Ray player, and that’s the first disc I bought). I really love that movie, perhaps even more than TDK, so I’d like to see the series come full circle. Of course, I’d also like to see Nolan and Bale consider a fourth Bat-movie if the inspiration is still there.

@Shaun: She was Leo DiCaprio’s wife in Inception, as well.

Yep… I’d since read that elsewhere. Somehow, I didn’t recognize the name OR her face from that picture. But, yes, I’ve seen (and really liked) Inception. Makes sense, given that Nolan likes to work with the same repertory cast of actors (now THAT’S a gig I’d like to have!).
Inception may be the next Blu-Ray I pick up, since I never got the DVD. I’d like to see that movie again.

Yes, I see Talia. Since she’s pregnant maybe they’ll work that into the film thus setting up Damian Wayne or she and Bane could be an item seeking revenge for Ra’s death.
I really hope Bale and Nolan do more Batman films, so much more Bat-history to work with.

For those who don’t know, she was in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp and Inception.

Emma Thomas: “She’s an Oscar winner hunny…pleeese cast herrr.”
Chris Dorklan: “Oh, alrrrright. Even if she doesn’t look petite. But man have I got a thing for fat chicks…mmmhmmm.hhmmmm. Ready for some extra cuddly tonight snook’ems?”
Emma Thomas: “Ohhhhhhhh raaandyy!”

what the…?

Marion should be playing Catwoman and Anne Hathaway Talia!

Anne Hathaway shouldn’t play ANYTHING in the Dark Knight Universe.
But I do like Marion as Catwoman, she would be perfect.
Talia she be played by talented Tall Middle Eastern / Asian woman, as benefits her origins in the comics.

Can’t we keep that idiocy of Damian Wayne OUT of this Batman World? Please, thank you. As for Talia…no..sorry, I can’t see her in this trilogy. Sure, you can connect the dots from the first film to the second but that would be a sandwich storytelling.

She won an Oscar for her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

Everybody just relax and let Nolan do his thing. How many great Bat-films does he have to give us until we just sit back and trust that he knows what he’s doing? As for Cotillard, I have no idea who she is, but I’m not upset at all about having to look at her on screen for two hours!

She deserved her Oscar for La Vie en Rose, she did a pretty amazing job portraying the deeply flawed, much loved Edith Piaf – I just wished the screenplay was a little more linear and less of a flashback, flash-forward sort of thing that made the movie a little difficult to follow without cliffnotes.
