Wow.

I’ll tell you, I’m another one who really enjoys storylines that have a master plan for a long term arc and a nice payoff. I was always more into the “mythology” episodes of X-Files and Fringe than the single-story episodes.

I’m looking very forward to Flashpoint and kept figuring that there was no way Booster and Rip would be left out of it.

As much as I love DeMattis and Giffen (I still hold the original JL/JLI run as one of my all-time favorites) I have to admit I have to describe their run on the books as slightly disapointing. Some issues have been excellent, but overall it’s been a little flat in places and just a little too off the path that I’ve come to expect from Booster stories. I am glad to see Dan return to the book (is there really many artists out there more on his/her game than Dan right now? Not really.) for a number of reasons but mostly because I love the ongoing “master plan” he has for the Carter clan.

The reality of DC right now is that they’re being run by Geoff Johns, who grew up reading Dan’s run on SUPERMAN and who feels strongly that writers with a Grand Master Plan are better than those who do one-and-done, seat-of-your-pants adventures, which is how Keith and Marc are best. With a major time-travel story running the company for the next year, of course Booster was going to be involved, and Giffen/DeMatteis are better writing independent stories that don’t require them to play ball with the continuity cops.

@Ted- Don’t worry, I already have a master plan to get my novel published (currently being reviewed by agents), get enough writing cred to pull a Bendis and get a deal with DC, with my first comic being a VERY original Ted Kord story that would not only bring him back, but also allow Jaime to remain the Blue Beetle and give Ted an unexplored area of the DCU to be his playground.

@Murphy – Check out an issue and see if you like it, or read part of the trade at Barnes & Noble when it hits. The story picks up cues from Bruce Wayne’s return and says “to be continued” in Flashpoint, but the central narrative–the plot you’re buying the book for–is contained to just the series.

I dropped Booster when Dan left and followed him to Time Masters so it looks like I’ll be following him back to Booster again too.
I’m looking forward to Flashpoint but I’m really hoping that all the regular books go on hiatus so I can afford to pick up all the mini-series and one-shots.

I am very happy that Dan is heading back to Booster Gold. I skipped Time Masters and after what I have read I am glad I did. I might be in the minority, but I think a mini-series should be self-contained. Had I bought Time Masters and saw that it was going to be continued in a different book I would have felt cheated.

You and me both, Kev. I could write Ted Kord stories for a decade. But, do you know WHEN they got the new Vanishing Point from? I mean, it’s possible that they got it from before they put Ted there, which would mean…POOF! No more Ted, period. And that does seem to be DC’s endgame as far as Ted goes, doesn’t it?

I just had this conversation with one of my customers, I was realy enjoying what Jurgens was doing with the book but had to stop reading it while Giffin has been writing it.

There’s something about a more “goofy” Booster that works well with the rest of the JLI but just doesn’t work for me in his own book.

Actually, the JLI books are the only Giffen books I’ve realy liked. I never much cared for most of his Legion work either.

I’m glad Dan’s coming back to Booster Gold. I’ve been planning to pick up the mini once it hits trades, especially now that I know it doesn’t tie in too closely to Return of Bruce Wayne.

Although I liked Dan’s take a bit less than what Geoff had done, it was miles above what Giffen & DeMatteis were doing. I have great respect for G&D and they are the ones that got me into the character to begin with, but the stories have been mostly “meh” – not bad, but not good. I do find it odd that my favorite Booster stories have pretty much all been written by someone other than his creator.
