Etsy Made Me Do It: Valentine’s Day

Once a week I’ll be sifting through the millions of Etsy listings to find the best in geek chic for Blog@ readers. Since Valentine’s Day is almost upon us I figured this week I’d pick some items you could buy for your sweetheart or friend to celebrate the day. Trust me, these are much better than going the generic chocolate and flower route.

“I love you more than a zombie loves brains.” And that’s a lot so consider this Valentine’s Zombie for just $14. User razzystar also has a Moody Bunny for $9  in case you need to send a slightly different message this holiday.

Check out my other amazing V-Day finds after the jump!

Ahh Star Wars. I know it’s the first place I go to when looking for relationship advice. Although, Yoda has been around a long time, he probably knows a thing or two. Pick up this Yoda in Love greeting card from TheWallaroo, or the classic “I know” card, for #3.50 each.

If you’re Valentine is a science geek, perhaps they’d find this Valentine much more interesting. From ShopGibberish, the Be My Geek card is a bit pricier at $7.95 but worth every penny in my opinion. For $12 they also have a Glass Tile Pendant that spells out LOVE with the periodic table as well.

The science-minded may also be interested in something more realistic instead of the standard cookie-cutter hearts. How about this YOU ARE HERE art print for $6.99 from collageOrama. The frame is not included but it certainly makes a statement. Or for something even more unusual, an anatomically correct Heart In A Jar by kivaford for $65.

For the girl you want to make *SQUEE* from cuteness, try this Mini Amigurumi Robot for $15 from user twistyfishies. Or, if she likes classic couples, a pair of Han and Leia knitted dolls for $30 from user fortheloveofhandknit.

If your friend isn’t currently dating someone and you’d like to help them out, why not get them a Boyfriend in a Bottle? User gnomesweeeetgnome will send you one of these fellas for $10.99. Never fret. You can also get a Girlfriend in a Bottle. Or, if you’re friend has had some horror stories from online dating, perhaps this $3.00 Zombie Valentine from monkeyminion is in order.

And last, but certainly not least, if you’re flying solo this year and prefer it that way, show the world you don’t need anyone but your trusty Companion Cube with this pin for $19 from monsterkookies.

Bear in mind, since Etsy is a craft website and not a commercial, mass-market dealer, items are almost always one-of-a-kind or in very limited availability. When you see something you like, buy it. It may not be there the next time you surf round. (Yes, it’s a very dangerous site for your wallet.) Also, since most items are created individually, many sellers are willing to customize something specifically to suit your needs. Just ask!
