As first seen on MTV’s Splash Page blog, here’s a new photo from the set of the 2012 Spider-Man film. And unlike the officially released costume picture from last week, this one — given the red eyes and silver booties — looks like it may be more of a stunt costume, and not necessarily representative of how the outfit will look in the movie.
Still, a couple of important things here — this is our first look at the mask, and the eyes sure do appear to be more Steve Ditko than Todd McFarlane; and it looks even more obvious that there are mechanical webshooters involved.
Beyond that (and this is probably just how this one picture looks), the reds and blues sure look a lot brighter than the more muted Tobey Maguire costume, or the picture from last week. Given that, it kind of sort of reminds me of this:

Spider-Man — directed by Marc Webb — is set for 2012, and stars Andrew Garfield in the title role.

This… Is really awful. Red lenses, and silver boots aside, it’s just stupid looking. It doesn’t look like Spider-Man, and as much as I felt the original movie suit was a let down, this is an outright betrayal. Why take the best costume in comics and over complicate it? It looks like a ski-suit or something. Terrible. Just terrible.
There are some really intriguing things about this film. I’m on board with Andrew Garfield as Peter, but every picture they show of him in character is worse than the last. I could go on, but why? Every time something good is announced, something bad also comes out.
Just make a freaking Spider-Man movie, and stop over thinking and over complicating things.

You guys sure are quick to judge the suit. Considering that they did some post-production effects on the previous Spidey suits, this probably isn’t the final look of the suit.
Also those don’t look like red lenses, it looks like some red light is shining on him. It’s not very noticeable since most of the top part of his suit is red.
