Check out these guns: FLEX MENTALLO to be collected in 2011

January 4th, 2011
Author David Pepose

Check it, Rama readers — Vertigo has announced that that long-lost masterpiece of Grant Morrison’s, Flex Mentallo, will finally be available again in 2011.

The book, drawn by Frank Quitely, was a spinoff of Morrison’s subversive run on Doom Patrol. But due to legal issues stemming from the similarities of the lead character to comic book bodybuilding icon Charles Atlas, the run quickly became a hot commodity; never reprinted or collected.

According to Graphic Content, the collected edition — a “beautiful Deluxe Edition hardcover with bonus material” — will be out sometime this fall. What say you, Rama readers? You excited to see this story finally brought back to the public eye?

I’ve just dropped a glass of cola all over the floor!

I remember how I grabbed a copy of issue #3 a few years ago at a fraction of the price that I have seen back issues of this to be, feeling extremely lucky, and seeing even a quarter of the story told you how good the whole of it must be. At least I finally get to know…

  2. Hondobrode Says:

I’ve got the entire mini with 1 issue autographed by Frank Q. Still might get this for the bonus material tho.

  6. Vinnie Bartilucci Says:

Either DC has decided that the amount made from the book will be greater than whatever the Charles Atlas people want(ed) for a settlement, or the Atlas people either lowered their price or just plain went away. I expect we’ll never know which.

Yesterday, I found out that Fantagraphics is going to be publishing Carl Barks’ Duck comics, and today I read about this! 2011 is already a great year for damn good comics to come back into print! I hope to hear about Morrison’s Zenith and the rest of the EC Archives in the coming year!

  8. Cæu Says:

To those of you who’ve got it in issues: you lucky stiffs! I got the first issue from my (then) LCS and was never able to score the rest of the mini. This book got hot fast. Now, at last, my dream of having it all can come true!

  9. JRC Says:

    Very happy about this.
I also was luck enough to get the whole thing–after the fact–for just a smidge more then cover price about 9 years ago.

Still might also pick up the HC, just for posterity’s sake.

I found 2 copies of italian ed. ( the price still in lire not euro!!) during last Lucca Comics and games comicon ed I bought them immediately…amazing story!

  11. Kieran Says:

    Great news !
It only would be greater if the first print would have been a trade paperback and not a HC.
Somebody knows if a softcover is already planned ?

  12. Nick Pitarra Says:
