I love Wonder Woman!, a marble statue getting alive... to protect the planet Venus, it's just a really clever nod to the story of Galatea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galatea_%28mythology%29#The_myth I don't know if it's just this, but I really love her (minus the huge star, and she needs some boots). Aquaman really doesn't work for me x_x; he looks too old age, I mean it's supposed to be waaay there in the future... and he haves an anchor, chains and other things that are already old, today?, it just doesn't work for me, sorry.

P.D. I also agree Kid Flash's costume is amazing, by far one of my favorites c:

Smith: Morrison has never indicated that he had a low opinion of Wonder Woman, nor has he said he "didn't care" about her. He simply said that he's had trouble writing her and hasn't been able to get a good handle on her character. I think it's admirable that he would choose to not feature her prominently rather than get her wrong. He's also made clear in several interviews that he wants to keep trying till he gets her right, and hopes to one day give her the treatment she deserves.

Without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't read the mini-series, care to give your thoughts on the hero who appears at the end? Or are you saving that for the follow-up column that you hinted at?

SMITH: Morrison wasn't the sole writer of all the tie-in issues that delved into the origins and histories of the different characters of the Justice Legion A and he's not always directly involved in the art design since he is the writer and not the artist. The 853rd century is too far ahead of time for anyone to worry about it being the official future and Legion of Three Worlds has shown that point to be a bit moot anyway. In either event, with Superman 1 Million's appearance in the upcoming All-Star Superman film and with last week's DC 1 Million special, it's definitely not being forgotten any time soon either.

Morrison made WW into a slab of marble...yeah given his opinion of her I guess he didn't care pretty much at the time DC One Million was written just like he didn't about her in Final Crisis. What rubbish is Aquaman wearing as well? This story was actually real crap. Morrison does not ace it all the time, folks and I hope DC do not go with this future at all.

Actually, in John Fox's first appearance, he hastily "made" the original costume from remnants of all three Flashes' costumes. He had to cobble one together from the wreckage of the Flash Museum right after gaining his powers. Knowing that, the blue worked for me.

Besides, for someone that was originally just a one-off character designed for a large-sized one shot solely to showcase the Flash Legacy, I think being able to adapt and evolve John Fox was an interesting move.

I liked DC One Million, and I think some of the future adaptations were fun. Future Impulse, anyone?

RC: You'll notice I didn't really speak my own analysis of the costume, including the gloves. I just said the costume is beloved by many. :-) Thanks and happy holidays to you too.

ROLAND: I definitely hope we can get to the Wonder Girls before Newsarama decides I'm old hat. :-) Thanks very much for reading, I'm glad you enjoy these.

WOOFUS: The story involved an evil sun, a sentient planet Mars, Superman living in the sun, and Batman's soul being transmitted across 80 millennia. I don't think anyone was concerned about scientific accuracy, it was just for wild and crazy fun. As for Merlin, it wasn't a time travel thing, it was that he aged backwards. Chris Field covers it pretty well.

Woofus, it wasn't explained in story as being a time paradox or anything sci-fi like that, but for magical reasons Merlin aged in reverse starting with Thomas Mallory's La Morte De Arthur. It's popped up in other Arthurian lit and fiction since then.

I agree about Kid Flash's costume. DC should have just made that the third Flash uniform back in 1985, instead of making Wally switch to Barry's.

Batman One Million reminds me of Batman Beyond. (In looks, not in personality.)

Hourman had a good design, but his personality owed a little too much to Mr. Data for my taste.

The whole "One Million" concept is not very farsighted, IMHO. To give some perspective, human migration out of Africa seems to have happened 60,000 to 40,000 years ago. Whites and East Asians became separate racial groups at this time. In this light, the idea that 80,000 years in the future, people will still look like 20th/21st century Americans (except robots etc.) and have Western-style names becomes absurd. Of course the whole thing owes more to space opera (retro future clothes, the nine planets, etc.) than to serious speculation. I get that.

I've never heard anything about Merlin traveling through time, whether sideways (as in alternate history?) or otherwise. What does this come from?

These are great Alan. I truly love your features. Keep up the awesomeness. Can we get a Wondergirls costume round up?

Quote: The Kid Flash suit has been considered one of the best designed superhero uniforms by many writers and artists, so it’s definitely a model worth emulating.

And the loose gloves and shoulder pads seem to diminish the sleekness that I think should mark a person called “Flash.” - end Quote.

John Fox's original costume had loose gloves - like - Kid Flash's yet KF gets a 'pass'.

Is it because of the lack of shoulder pads? LOL!

Great article as always and Happy Holidays!

Where is that Wonder Woman pic by "Artgerm" from, where she's trading the new outfit for the classic look?

DAN: A FLASH column is definitely in the works. But yeah, ask around, Mark Waid and many others really think Wally as Kid Flash had one of the best damn costumes out there. Waid even used to sneak in jokes by having characters such as Plastic Man remark to Wally that his Kid Flash costume was better than his Flash costume. Grant Morrison had Kyle Rayner make a similar remark to Wally as well.

"The Kid Flash suit has been considered one of the best designed superhero uniforms by many writers and artists, so it’s definitely a model worth emulating."

I'd be curious to know more about that bit.

Ma, I love these redesigns. The only one that doesn't work for me is Wonder Woman's. I love Aquaman's watery hair and Starman's cape. But my favorite, like your's Alan, is the Superman suit.

Yeah, Marvelboy is right, which is why it's not correct to say that John Fox's blue is 'a whole new element' for a Flash costume.

And Batman One Millon IS wearing a utility belt.

Anyway, great column, Happy Christmas!

I also think I see a bit of Nightwing in the Batman suit, with the blue, wing-like zig-zag business about the shoulders...

I think John Fox's original costume was somewhat of a cross between Jay and Barry's costumes. Otherwise, agreed with everything you wrote. Good job and thanks for bringing Justice Legion A back to memory. I think I need to dig out that issues and re-read them.
