Marvel Comics unveiled the “Architects” this afternoon — Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Jonathan Hickman and Jason Aaron; the five writers the publisher says are shaping the future of the Marvel Universe. For a press release, it got a lot of attention, both for what it said and also what it didn’t say. For instance:
· Matt Fraction, writer of Thor, Invincible Iron Man, and a top secret upcoming event
Hey, wait a sec: doesn’t Fraction also write Uncanny X-Men, the flagship title of what’s been the most popular segment of Marvel’s publication line for the last two decades or so? When Kieron Gillen was announced as joining the book as co-writer back in September, the prevailing speculation was that it might be a transition period before Gillen took over the book solo, like when Fraction joined Brubaker as a co-writer back in Uncanny #500. (Or when Rick Remender joined Fraction on Punisher: War Journal.) Though neither Marvel nor Fraction have commented on the issue, this has served to fuel speculation further.
Though, of course, who knows for sure at this point? Uncanny could have been left out for a variety of reasons, and until we get word one way or another from involved parties, all speculation is, y’know, just speculation.

“…and until we get word one way or another from involved parties, all speculation is, y’know, just speculation.”
Not that that ever stopped anyone on the internet though!

God I hope this is true – his Uncanny is horrible to read, get him off Iron Man next please Marvel!

Yeah, I thought it was a given thata when a co-writer comes on, the first writer is going off. It’s no big deal, is it? Writers come and go … stops ‘em getting bored!

I just don’t get why people don’t like his X-Men. I think it’s the best run on Uncanny in a very, very long time. I think Carey’s and Yost/Kyle’s X-stuff is better but that’s not hardly the point. Neither of them had the cursed book that is Uncanny.

…Get him off Iron Man? He’s got the best run on Iron Man since Kurt Busiek. If you’re not enjoying Iron Man right now, it’s not the writer–it’s the character. You don’t like him as he’s *meant* to be written.

Totally right @SageShini, Fraction’s Iron Man is the best Iron Man I’ve read in ages, if he’s out of Uncanny, I’m cool with that, Gillen is a good writer, he can handle it; but keep him in Iron Man and Thor, please.
Peace
