Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and true work to produce a great article... but what can I say... I procrastinate alot and never appear to get something done.

I am noob at blog and have just created myown blog and currently I ‘m doing my best to study as many as I can about this short of thing. I really like the blog skin, may I know what layout is that? Is this customized template or is this paid one? But I can’t afford to buy paid design nor got the skill to custom design myself. I’m sorry for the noob question, thanks.

Regarding Tim Drake as Red Robin, I really like Marcus To's redesign of his uniform for the in story Unternet (bascially a version of the Internet created by Darkseid)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/Greywing/RealRedRobin.jpg

Considering it takes cues from Dick's 3rd Nightwing costume, it's pretty nice and still his own look especially the bird shaped domino mask

SOME GUY: Every column has had the same rule that, except in special cases, we don't mention the cartoon adaptations. I'm aware that Robin has, for instance, shown up in the Brave and the Bold cartoon but it was really just the Earth 2 costume with the original mask, so there was no reason to make an exception to mention it. Likewise, several previous columns have mentioned that we don't talk about live action adaptations cuz that requires an entirely different criteria and deserves a separate column.

We already discussed Dick's Batman costume in the Batman Agent of S.T.Y.L.E. piece. There wouldn't really be a Dick Grayson special because there have been several other people who use the name Nightwing and who deserve attention.

I actually love Damian's suit, especially the boots.

I think with Dick Grayson (and to a lesser extent, Jason) His costume became so iconic and well known that DC were reluctent to change it and by the time they did, he had already moved on, so it was a bit unfortunate for him.
It would have been cool to mention how modern artists tend to modernise Dick's old costume (I'm thiking NIghtwing Annual #2 off the top of my head, i know there are others)by making it look more padded or making the boots look more practical, stuff like that.
Also, a mention of Robin's live action costumes (plus the animated ones you didn't mention) would have been cool too.

Heres looking forward to a Dick Grayson special, including his Nightwing and Batman costumes.

ANDREW KELLY: Jason donned that outfit and attacked Tim in Teen Titans #29, back when Geoff Johns was still writing it. It came out a couple of months before INFINITE CRISIS began. Skrulls and Shi'ar would be a mite hard. Kree could be interesting. Flash is inevitable and will be quite fun, as I'm a fan of that family of superheroes. Thanks for reading, hope you continue to enjoy these columns!

Alan, great column!

One question though. Can you tell me which issue of Batman did Jason Todd fight Tim Drake, while Jason dawned an alternate version of the robin costume? Or if you could tell me the TPB that would be great too!

Again get column and Im always looking forward to more of your writing. You are even saved as a quick link on my mac home screen. And might i suggest an alien article such as Skrull, Kree, or Shi'ar. Or a Flash article would be a nice ong read!

Okay another fact you might consider was that Flash Gordon in 1937 had a major storyline involving Prince Barin and his Tree Palace kingdom.
In that story the tree-men worn outfits that were very Robin Hood like. But the most shocking was the coloring of Dales costume, on June 6.
It looks exactly like the color scheme for Robin.
Matter of fact it has green leggings and would have made for a more practical look.
Since comics-strips were the "A" class of cartooning back then, you know that a number of aspiring young comic book artist were worshiping the art of Alex Raymond and other contemporaries.
So Bob and the gang had to be aware of it.

When Burt Ward played Robin in the Batman TV series, he was actually wearing flesh colored stockings or leggings. Of course, that still doesn't explain why a superhero would put up the illusion of wearing shorts.

re: red boot laces

I knew there was something about that so....GOOD!

1. it's specific to the iconic color combination of Robin
2. it's appropriating something nefarious for something heroic
and
3. It's wickid punk

what little RTFM I've done about red shoelaces means "you've shed blood".
http://www.wsusignpost.com/2.3589/my-boyfriend-the-accidental-skinhead-1.408925
I found this piece so take it as you will.
against black boots, it's neo-Nazi whose shed blood for the cause, apparently. Against Green Boots? it's your imagination concerning Robin...but Damian most definitely has shed blood.

all in all, I don't think red laces for my green Chucks would be cool anymore...I'd keep it safe.

what little RTFM I’ve done about red shoelaces means “you’ve shed blood”.
http://www.wsusignpost.com/2.3589/my-boyfriend-the-accidental-skinhead-1.408925
I found this piece so take it as you will.
against black boots, it’s neo-Nazi whose shed blood for the cause, apparently. Against Green Boots? it’s your imagination concerning Robin…but Damian most definitely has shed blood.

all in all, I don’t think red laces for my green Chucks would be cool anymore…I’d keep it safe.

The costume Drake wore, Red and Black, made the most sense. At night, in the dark, deep red becomes black, works the best. Tim Drake was the best-written Robin, hope they don't screw him up as Red Robin (like they ruined the best Batgirl, Cassandra Cane)

Sorry to presume Alan!

Nonetheless I posit you can apply Red, Yellow, Green and some "R" Motif on any youthful DC superhero and it invokes this lineage instantly...you presume that young hero is probably a Robin regardless of any potential gender, race or space/time.

TREV: The rule every week has been that we don't involve Elseworlds or parallel universe versions unless they have had some effect on the mainstream characters because, frankly, there are too many of them. We already have 60 images here and I can think of 12 more Elseworld variations of Robin just off the top of my head. To include those as well would A, make each column a novel rather than a column and B, prevent us from doing special columns and follow-up columns later.

REV SULLY: The Robin 1 Million image is actually from the cover of YOUNG JUSTICE 1 MILLION, not the 80-Page Giant.

CHRIS ULICHNEY: Glad you enjoyed it. Read my comment above concerning Nightwing.

TOM: Thanks much. Read my comment above concerning Nightwing.

Great article as always! I hope you follow this up with one on Nightwing. Between Dick Grayson's multiple looks (comic and animated) and the different Krytonian looks there should be more than enough material.

Loved this one. Robin has als been such an important character in the DC universe. It's great to see how all the different versions personalities came out in their costumes. Now some day you have to revisit Dick Grayson in his many different NIghtwing costumes.
