Hello lovely lads and lasses! It’s time for episode 2 of Newsarama Radio!
This week we introduce another member of the crew into the line-up. She has years of radio experience, and is a well-known nerd journalist who has written for Publisher’s Weekly, Topless Robot, MTV Splashpage, and many more. You may know her from her column here at Newsarama, “Hey, That’s My Cape!” It’s The Nerdy Bird herself, Jill Pantozzi!

Please Note: We’ll be on iTunes soon, for now, subscribe to the feed directly here.
This week’s episode tackles Young Justice, the Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark preview opening, Mark Millar’s KAPOW! Comic convention, and new editorial promotions at DC Comics (and what that might mean to you).
In the break, you’ll hear Kirby Krackle‘s “Ring Capacity.” The nerd rock band covers lots of comic book characters, and with Green Lantern on everyone’s minds with the trailer and all, we thought this was a perfect fit. Thanks, guys!
The main topic this week is THE WALKING DEAD. We talk the TV show, we talk the comic, we talk the rumored firings, we talk racism and controversy, and we go off on two monster tangents about Call of Duty and the Birds of Prey TV show. Why? Because we can, dagnabit.
Speaking of video games, as I did 12 words ago, we also have inside the show an Xbox LIVE Download code courtesy of Microsoft for the Halo: Reach Noble Map Pack, the first DLC for the biggest Xbox 360 exclusive of the year. That one is first come, only serve- Only the first person will get it, so tune in, and see if you’re the fastest to find it (and please comment below if you are)!

Maybe it’s just one’s own subjective musical tastes, but that intro music is terrible. It genuinely makes me cringe. Both times, I had to skip ahead asap.

I can definitely see a backlash against Walking Dead coming, especially with a few niggling doubts creeping in at the back of my mind.
I do take issue with the “additions” Darabont has made to the series, but for very different reasons. Namely, I think he’s rushing it all thematically, to make for a more well-rounded season of television, even at the expense of what’s meant to come later. Kirkman paced the books masterfully. Every progressive arc felt like we were going further down the rabbit hole. But the way the tv show throws out big beats like a guy losing a hand and meeting up with unsavoury villains, it’s going to majorly take away from significant moments from the book (should they even appear).
Also, the trip to the CDC flat out doesn’t fit with the tone of the book or the tv show. The moment you introduce sterile labs, big shiny hi-tech control rooms and CGI graphics of synapses firing, you’ve completely missed the point.
I may just be a comic book loyalist. Whenever we get to focus on a fan favourite character like Dale, Glenn or Andrea, I’m as happy as can be. These are characters who’s company I enjoy, who I like and want to see survive. But when we have to spend minutes at a time with the new characters, listening to racist rants from Merle or see Ed beat his wife or T-Dog be a clumsy idiot, I totally lose interest and want nothing more than to get back to the core characters I’m tuning in to see.

As a die-hard TWD reader, I am severely disappointed in the show.
As Clem mentions, the fancy set pieces of the CDC doesn’t fit with the overall tone that the series should be striving for. It’s akin to something you would see in CSI. I’m pretty sure that the actual CDC doesn’t have a talking computer either.
On top of the terrible racist and stereotypical characters there’s several terrible little things. Why on earth does a 35 year old black man have to be called T-Dog? Why couldn’t they just name him Steve? It would be like calling Merle “Hillbilly Dave” or something. Also going back to episode 2, couldn’t he just lose the key over the side rather than in a 1″ x 1″ drainipipe?
I’m going to stop my ranting cause I’ll probably just go on and on. I’ll keep watching, mainly to see how they deviate from the books but the best way I can describe my feelings on the show is through this analogy: I was expecting 28 Days Later and instead we got “I Am Legend” starring Will Smith.

I do accept as true with all of the concepts you have presented in your post. They’re very convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are very brief for newbies. May you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
