Except that Kirkman wasn’t the cause of the initial “leak” and everything he’s said publicly about the issue has been of the extremely cautious and cagey variety, just like the statement in the article.
That’s why it’s silly to say that this is a result of the network “coming down” on Kirkman; there’s nothing to “come down” on him for. He’s been acting like nothing but “one of the team” throughout all this.

@weeji – because he is one of the executive producers of the show. And the executive producers are who the studio suits come down on. Kirkman spoke because he either felt he had to or wanted too (as both EP and head writer). Either way the EP’s are the ones who provide the spin on issues like this.

Separate from this writing staff maybe-kerfluffle / maybe biz-as-usual, it’s pretty cool and amazing that Kirkman is one of the show’s leaders, where he can say things like “…if WE’RE going to have a writer’s room…” Not long ago he’d have just been given a royalty check and ignored.

Why would they come down on Kirkman? If that was the case, he would be the wrong person to tell to say this. I think Kirkman is just more in tune with comic fans, and wanted to clear the air about the situation.
