Actually it’s the third verse same as the first. Registration was supossed to be on November 1 then they moved the date up. I am hoping they go with ticketmaster, I don’t see any other options

C’mon guys, its not rocket science… What they need to do is just not announce when tickets are going to go on sale. They never did in the past so you won’t have all these people waiting to do it all at once. Just wait till a random time and do it. Problem solved…

Each year has gotten bigger than the last. Internet purchase of memberships is relatively new. And thanks to the frenzy about getting into the show at all (remember, demand for Preview Night tickets was so high they’re ALREADY sold out) it means whatever system is used to sell tickets, it’s going to get HAMMERED by fans the moment it opens. No “let’s wait five minutes so it’ll be easier to get a cab”, this is an electronic version of Black Friday, with people pinned against the doors desperate to come in.

The con has become like Disneyworld, far too large to hit everything in one trip. The media attention it’s gotten in the last two or three years has only increased its allure.

More like 100,000 in the first minute. The bottom line is that this show has gotten too big. Everything about it needs to be redone from top to bottom. From registration to the exclusives to the exhibit halls themselves. It’s all out of control.

I still fail to see what the issue is this year as opposed to previous ones, if the method wasn’t broke all the other years than why is it suddenly broke this year.
Perhaps in going with trying to save money they used this new group, EPIC, and now will see that was a mistake.

To be fair, it’s not SDCC who is failing here, it is the registration company they have contracted with: EPIC – “Event Planning International Corporation”. It’s EPIC that should have taken the 3 weeks to do some load testing on their servers/web-site to ensure we didn’t have a replay of the problems from Nov. 1st.

Re; Other Options -
TICKETMASTER – In addition to the scalping opportunity, we’d no doubt see an increased ticket price due to Ticketmaster’s typically egregious fees.

The may want to go with a simple mail-in registration form, or else contract with a 3rd part company that can demonstrate that they can handle 20,000+ hits in the 1st minute that registration opens.

The main reason they don’t want to go with Ticketmaster is they won’t have as much (read – any) ability to prevent transferal of tickets. They’ve been able to hold the line on scalping by having the memberships have a name and address connected to them. Ticketmaster means a complete loss of that, and you’ll see memberships go for outrageous sums. And once scalping becomes viable, demand for tickets will increases solely as people buy them to flip them.

The popularity of San Diego is a double-edged sword indeed.

The furthest I got was to the 2nd registration page before I got the internal server error 500 screen, I was on at 6:15 am.
