Cartoons typically seem to come up with the best versions of a character’s costume. Artists really need to start thinking simpler.

I really dug Phil Urich’s costume. It worked really well with that art style too.

And the Dodson’s version might’ve been the coolest of Norman’s costumes if they just added more green to the coloring.

Umm, no. Not “literally”. “Figuratively” was the word you were looking for… unless you know something about the story that the writer himself did not.

(Just a pet peeve of mine that writers don’t seem to know what the word “literally” means. Do you know how many times I’ve read game reports that claim that such-and-such a player was LITERALLY on fire?)

I’m kind of surprised, since you commented on Norman being the opposite of Peter in terms of how they use their scientific genius, and even the approach they take to their masks (Peter’s hiding his face, while Norman’s essentially becomes his face), that you didn’t comment on the color schemes. Spider-Man is bright, primary colors, while the Green Goblin is darker, secondary colors. It tells you right off the bat that Norman/GG is not as pure as Peter/SM.

Skull cap does make sense in that it would not fall of his head so easily as the hat would when traveling at high speeds on the glider.

HECTHOR: I think it was a great drawing but I’d have to see how it translates to real life before I made a judgment. I’d love to see it tried, though.

YONAN32: As has been explained in the last maybe half dozen pieces, alternate universes get their own columns. So expect in the future a column that will talk about the House of M Goblin, Ultimate Goblin, 2099 Goblin, etc. all together.

Phil Urich’s costume may not have suited his personality, but for me that was the point. Phil was an aimless twenty something who couldn’t figure out where he was going which came across even in his superhero outings. You’re right though in that I’m sure that wasn’t the point in choosing his look. Given that it was after all conceived in the 90′s which required slapping on some supernormal stimuli for male and female body parts with some pouches and useless straps for good measure. Still it’s my justification for the character that got me into comics back then. Great article again Alan! Thanks for the memories. (I had forgotten about the laughing mask weapon.)

Hey, remember the concept costume created by alex ross for a wizard magazine. I think it was before the Spider-Man movie came out. I think that was the best real-look for the Goblin. So I was very disaponted by the Power Ranger-Goblin. The costume created by Alex ross, should really be used in the next movie or whatever medium. What do you think?

Aside from being too uniform, I liked the movie outfit given the direction it was going for. Watching Norman’s body language while he’s trying to convince Pete he’s a good guy with that constant grimace was a good experience. I just hope the next movies don’t use the Green Ogre from Ultimate Spider-man.

The classic costume just strikes me as a bit too Mr. Grinch. Plus, growing up on the 90s cartoon, it seemed plain after seeing Hobgoblin. Although I do love the rocket broomstick, hope it comes back in some media.

Personally, I’m a fan of the first armored comics costume and Ellis Thunderbolts tattered look, but Spectacular is definitely worthwhile. Shame the show didn’t get more seasons.
