If Vertigo does go down, as some rumours would seem to suggest is going to happen, then I’m afraid that’s pretty much it for me and DC.
Off the top of my head, Jonah Hex is the only non-Vertigo DC title I still pick up regularly. I’ve already dropped everything Marvel puts out – nothing against the company per se, although I’ll admit to being more of a DC guy for as long as I’ve been buying comics – since superhero books just don’t really interest me anymore, and I honestly can’t afford to shell out for countless crossover books.
It’d be a disaster for the industry if one of the best outlets for intelligent, groundbreaking, risk-taking comics should be shut down.

Vertigo is pretty much where all of my money to DC goes these days. I couldn’t give a rats ass about who’s currently dead, who’s got new powers or a new costume or whatever giant, wallet-killing crossover is going on.

Vertigo has some of the best stuff in the business these days. DMZ, Northlanders, The Unwritten, Sweet Tooth. I’ve bought all the latest trades for them as they come out.

So, my question is: why the hell would they lay off the editor of one of the most critically acclaimed comics in the last few years? The Unwritten is amazing and I’m sure it’s helped in part because of Pichoshote. Damn shame. Whoever fills those boots is going to have be nothing short of amazing.

I really, really hope that this doesn’t mean Vertigo itself is going down, as Little Fish said.

This fits with the horribly pessimistic and depressing rumouring that has been going around retail circles of DC cancelling the Vertigo line entirely. A horrible horrible mistake if it is true.

I worked with Joan Hilty on the Cartoon Network DC line. She’s overseen many quality titles. I wish her and the others the best. I’ve been surprised by so many cuts.

This is brutal. Pichetshote and Hilty have consistently edited (and pushed through the system) quality books that are both entertaining and challenging. Great reviews too. DC is making a mistake if this is true.
