Whether you play the Left 4 Dead video games or are a fan of noted comic book artist Mike Oeming (or, y’know, both), there’s a lot to like about the digital-only Left 4 Dead comic — full title Left 4 Dead Presents: The Sacrifice — that hit online this week.
Illustrated by Oeming and written by the game writers, it’s not only a clever way for game distributor Valve Corporation to keep their audience occupied between releases, it’s also relatively groundbreaking in the world of digital publishing — a major name like Oeming producing more than 160 pages for a free webcomic.
The colors by Nick Filardi and Val Staples really complement Oeming’s art, and a comic based on a first-person shooter allows plenty of opportunity for Oeming to use his talent of colorfully depicting some spectacular gore, as he’s been known to do over in Powers, his creator-owned book with Brian Michael Bendis. The comic will be broken up into four installments; the first, 42-page, part is up now, and the rest follow each Tuesday after that until October 4.
If you’re looking for more Oeming, Powers #6 is scheduled for Sept. 29, and he’s set to return to the Marvel Universe for Chaos War: Ares in December.
