This past Monday, Marvel Comics released an image of Elektra by Harvey Tolibao accompanied by the text “Assassin For Hire” and “Coming in December.” The immediate speculation was that this meant a new Elektra miniseries or ongoing.
The next day, things weren’t so clear, as the publisher released another image, this time with The Falcon, saying “Wingman For Hire.”
At that point, the tenor of speculation changed – maybe it wasn’t an Elektra series, but rather the return of the Heroes for Hire brand, originated in 1978 by iconic Marvel duo Power Man & Iron Fist and last seen in a 2006 15-issue series starring Misty Knight and Colleen Wing.
No new teaser today, but Diamond published “Sneak PREVIEWS: Look What’s in October’s Catalog” on their Web site, briefly highlighting a few notable December releases including “Marvel Comics’ Heroes for Hire #1.” Seems to kind of confirm that’s what the teasers are all about.
No further details on Heroes for Hire #1 are known at this time — if it’s a mini or an ongoing, what other characters might be involved, or if it has anything to do with the January-debuting Power Man & Iron Fist miniseries by writer Fred Van Lente and artist Wellinton Alves. (In a July interview with Newsarama, Van Lente said the titular duo — the new, Shadowland-introduced Power Man and Danny Rand — will be “Heroes for Hire”.) Marvel solicitations usually hit on the third Tuesday of the month, so we’ll know a lot more soon.
The adventures of the original Heroes for Hire stretched for more than 70 issues in the pages of Power Man & Iron Fist; “Heroes for Hire” has been the title of an ongoing twice — the 2006 book (first written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, later by Zeb Wells) and a 19-issue post-”Onslaught” series from writer John Ostrander and artist Pasqual Ferry starring Luke Cage and Iron Fist along with a rotating cast including the Dane Whitman Black Knight, She-Hulk and Hercules.

I really liked that Ostrander series. (poor Scott Lang…)
I’d be interested to see who else is on this team. Elektra and Falcon are an interesting mix, (SO glad to see Falcon with non-energy wings again) but I’m not sold yet based on those two.
Who else could be on that team? And who’s running the show? (I know Luke Cage has been almost as ubiquitous as Wolverine lately, but I can’t imagine he’s here as well)

I wonder what the chances are of having Colleen and Misty show back up in Heroes for Hire like in the most recent incarnation..

9jack9 — good point about Luke Cage. I liked that Ostrander series, too, especially the issue where Deadpool showed up, since he didn’t really interact with the Marvel U as a whole at that point (times change!).
Xsikal – my instincts say that they’ll probably stay away from the main characters of the last Heroes for Hire book, only because it was so recent, but who knows. It would be interesting if it was a Heroes for Hire title without Cage/Fist/Knight/Wing.

I’m expecting a few run-off characters from Shadowland, or maybe some of the characters that showed up in the “New Man Without Fear” Teasers, since we know who that is now. Maybe Gambit? Thief for Hire?

I would love to see the NEW Power Man in this series. He is a great character (if he survives Shadowland). Also, how about some of the “Man Without Fear” candidates? I would love to see Gambit on a team like this, and I hate Gambit. Also, redemption for the resurrected Kraven would make this a must buy for me, if it was handled correctly.

a lot will depend on the creative team…but if it’s got Iron Fist, i’m probably on board (especially if Luke, Misty and/or Colleen are in as well.
).

I can always get behind a Heroes for Hire series. its been great and underrated by all three different iterations.
Love to see Gambit, Hannibal King as a PI, and either Eric O’Grady Ant-Man or Tom Foster Goliath

I’d love to see more Paladin and the Shround, really misunderestimate characters, I hope they’ll have their place…
if there is the whole SHADOWLAND rooster, that promises being interesting…

Load of second string characters, all grouped together in one book…wow, can’t wait for this!!
Thanks but no thanks.
How many times now have Marvel tried and failed with this idea?
Another one for the give it a miss list i’m afraid.

was hoping for an elektra mini or ongoing, not too keen on this im afraid sorry marvel!

Unfortunately, the Morningstar is probably right…
Unless a new title sports and “X” or the word “Avengers”, people won’t buy it regardless of quality…
That being said, I applaud Marvel for attempting to force feed good stories into the marketplace despite the apparent prejudice against non-X/non-Avengers material…

Yup, look how long Capt Britain and Agents of Atlas lasted? Marvel is painting themselves into a corner where the only thing being bought are brand X-Avenger-Spidey-Hulk. I’m just counting down the minutes until Punisher discovers heis a mutant and is infused with a gamma radiated spider and asked to join the Avengers.

Where are Falcon’s hard-light hologram wings?
Or is that just a coloring “mistake,” making them look opaque?
I REALLY hope Marvel doesn’t get rid of them. (They quickly removed all of Priest’s updates to the Black Panther outfit, and now they plan on removing Priest’s updates to the Falcon outfit too? Unbelievable…)

Yeah, the 1996/1997 series was the best. I’ve always loved the concept of Heroes for Hire, but I believe it works best when each character is a specialist in some marktable area, such as a thief, bounty hunter/tracker, bodyguard, assassin, detective. I think Black Cat should be in this incarnation again.
September 16th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
This could be great news, depending on the creative team, of course.
The last incarnation of HfH was OK, until Palmiotti and Gray left, and the Ostrander/Perry run was good stuff, too.
Personally, I hope they get my man, Shang Chi, in this.
He seems to have been having a tiny renaissance lately, and I’d like to see it keep on going.

Ryan: I’m going to sound like a dick but you don’t need the “MIS” in your word above. Underestimate would do fine!

Therefore optimized sites are creating an ad sales wealth transfer from MSN and Yahoo into the pockets of Google! It won’t be long before Yahoo! and MSN begin to devalue ranking on AdSense sites in their databases — if not outright ban them.

The thinking with this approach is you might as well make money from disinterested parties using up your server’s bandwidth.

I dont know if I quite agree, but I value your opinion. Thanks.

Thanks for the useful information on credit repair on this amazing web-site. A few things i would advice people is to give up this mentality that they buy today and fork out later. As a society many of us tend to do this for many things. This includes holidays, furniture, in addition to items we’d like. However, it is advisable to separate one’s wants out of the needs. While you are working to improve your credit rating score you have to make some sacrifices. For example you can shop online to save money or you can click on second hand outlets instead of expensive department stores to get clothing.
