Apparently, they really work. Rick Jones says he was totally fooled.

For those complaining about the chronological order, I stated at the beginning that I would not be doing the outfits chronologically because it made more sense for me to organize it this way. Please keep in mind, these columns are about design and fashion and while they provide background info in parts, they are not meant to be biographies of each character I discuss. I understand if that bothers you, which is why I also pointed out throughout the article that certain images of the Gray Hulk were taken from stories “years later”, etc.

Now for more specific answers:

VICHUSSMITH: Seriously!

MARTIN GRAY: I jokingly called it a “Tim Gunn” suit because it looks very much like the style of suit Tim prefers. And, in fact, he wore a suit identical to that when he and I first discussed the Hulk.

RICH: 49 friggin’ jpegs weren’t enough for you?

JONSTUMP: After doing the Cable S.T.Y.L.E. column, I figure I’m ready for anyone’s crappy costume now.

Actually, it was Al Milgrom, in The Incredible Hulk #324, who brought back ol’ Greyskin. Peter David did a fill-in for #328 and only became the series writer in #331.

David himself notes how often he has to correct people on this point.

I was always a fan of the Mr. Fixit look. He was a snazzy. Although I’m a big fan of Pinstripe suits.

I’m also both pleased and saddened that Clown Hulk didn’t make an appearance from his one-panel mental cameo back in Jenkins’ run. He’s Hulk…AND he’s a clown!

‘Sleeveless shirts with a neckline that goes down half your chest’ I know that in the US a vest is what we in the UK term a waistcoat, but is there no term for what we call a vest (ie this thing). I never liked the term ‘wifebeater’.

I’m curious as to what makes a suit a ‘Tim Gunn suit’. That sharp suit just looks like a sharp suit.

I have long considered doing something on the Doctor and am trying to figure out a clever and consistent approach to it. It’s not as easy to criticize “does this suit our character” when dealing with a character who, by nature, alters his point of view and appearance every few years. Lex Luthor and Wonder Man are definitely on my list of those columns yet to come, rest assured.

And I know it’s not really in the realm of comics but what about The Doctor (of Doctor Who) through the ages? Or maybe some of the zany outfits Lex Luthor has worn? The safari jacket wearing Wonder Man?
