It’s completely fair to refer to this week as “Scott Pilgrim week” — the movie’s out on Friday, the soundtrack and video game hit today, and we here at Newsarama ran this nifty feature with comments from Michael Cera, Jason Schwartzman, Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O’Malley.
Given all that, this intriguing piece of news was in danger of falling under the radar — today’s announcement from ComiXology that the all six volumes of O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are now available on the iPad, iPhone, and on the web at comics.comixology.com. Published in print by Oni Press, the volumes are priced at $6.99 for 1 through 5, and $11.99 (cover price) for Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, the sixth and final volume released to bookstores last month.
It’s another digital coup for market leader ComiXology, but the Scott Pilgrim comics actually aren’t available for purchase through the distributor’s simply named Comics app. Rather, a separate free app must be downloaded to buy the comics, which are then viewed through the Comics app (or the web). A bit roundabout, but that’s the deal.
If you’re looking for more of a Scott Pilgrim fix before Friday, why not check out our video interviews? We talked to Michael Cera & Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Ellen Wong, and Edgar Wright. (And we didn’t have anything to do with it, but this trailer recreation with panels from the comics is definitely cool.)

Downloaded my app and the first 5 books so far… AND I have the books too. Love this series and happy to have it digitally now, too! I’ll probably get book 6 this weekend.

They look amazing on the iPhone 4 display. Killer app for digital comics IMHO.

P.S. I do hope that it will be merged into my comixology comic app, and available for view on the web also.
