Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is the first installment of the series in 10 years, and scheduled to hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in spring 2011. Naturally, there’s been a lot of speculation as to which Marvel Comics and Capcom characters will be included in the game, and thanks to preview videos and what’s been demoed, we already know a few, including Captain America, Deadpool and Wolverine on the Marvel side, plus Ryu, Chun-Li and Morrigan on the Capcom side.
But it looks like a reader of French Web site PS3Gen may have cracked the code, quite literally, allegedly viewing the source code of Capcom’s Japanese site to find what could be a complete roster of playable characters for the game. (View a translated version of the page here, plus enjoy fun phrasings such as, “When the official channels are silent or too slow, some fans redouble their imagination to get their hands on what they want.”) Here’s what they’ve got:
Marvel:
Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Mr. Fantastic, Captain America, Iron Man, War Machine, Elektra, Thor, X-23, Magneto, Dr. Doom, Shuma-Gorath, Emma Frost, Deadpool, Super Skrull, Taskmaster, Juggernaut, She Hulk.
Capcom:
Ryu, Mike Haggar, Frank West, Chuck, Spencer (Bionic Commando), Dante, Chris Redfield, Morrigan, Arthur, Amaterasu, Albert Wesker, Zero, Chun-Li, Viewtiful Joe, Trish, Tron Bonne, Hsien-Ko, Akuma, Felicia.
Feel free to get psyched about who’s there and bummed about who’s not (no Venom?) though keep in mind this is in no way official or confirmed, just what a particularly enterprising fan has apparently managed to uncover. It’s also only 38 characters, as opposed to the 56 playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. (Still a lot more than the 12 playable in X-Men: Children of the Atom back in 1994.)
EDIT: Given the news coming out of San Diego that the Fantastic Four wouldn’t be playable in the game and Mr. Fantastic’s presence on this list, Magic 8-Ball says all signs point to “fake.” Thanks to the commenters for the assist. (Yes, even you “NewsaramaBLWs.”)

Whats Capcoms deal with Shuma-Gorath?
The Capcom list looks good but I would add RE’s Nemesis.
Marvel side…nice to see Reed Richards and She-Hulk. But War Machine when theres Iron Man already? Emma Frost? Iceman and the Human Torch would be nice to show off diff power sets.
I hope this list isn’t quite right.
ALSO pray they do DLC character packs!!!

Didn’t they say that there would be none of the Fantastic Four in the game, at Marvel’s request? And didn’t they also say that only 1/3 of the characters would be new? I’m guessing fake on this one.

Would have liked to see Megaman, ms marvel, daredevil, sentinel, Luke cage, bb hood.
Overall, not too worried about who they left out because there will be a marvel vs capcom 4. Lets hope it doesn’t take ten years though

I’d be excited about a lot of them, but sooo disappointed in other choices that it might just make it a skip…
Taskmaster? That makes me more than happy!

We also already know Dormammu is in the game, even though he’s not on that list. Maybe because he’s not playable, but I don’t know why he wouldn’t be.
And leaving aside Marvel, there are some VERY conspicuous absences from the Capcom side for a fighting game. I’m going to jump on board with others who think this list is either BS or very much incomplete.

This is a fake, i thought i read that none of the fantastic fours were to be in the game, same as Emma frost, etc. I think its a weak line up to be honest.

I was hoping for Ghost Rider , Iceman , Gambit and the Torch
Vega would be a great addition and Dalsim to go against Mr.Fantastic , not some bionic Soldier

Even if the thing about the Fantastic Four not being in it was somehow wrong and it was possible this list was still real, at the very least it cannot be the complete list. I know this because the same video that confirmed Amaterasu as a playable character confirmed Thor as one and he is not on this list at all. On top of that there was a guy who works on the game wearing a shirt at Comic-Con that all but confirmed Viewtiful Joe and Dormammu. And finally if that wasn’t enough, what is most likely Dormammmu’s silhouette is clearly in the background of the original version of the image up at the top. So what does this all mean? Simple, this list is entirely fake or very incomplete.

EMMA Frost: This has to be a joke right? Maybe if she had more telekinetic abilities (like Psylocke)but still no.
Mr Fantastic: I thought they solved the F4 problem with Super Skrull. And of the 4 of them Reed Richards is the worst choice, unless he uses some gadgets and whatnot to make him more formidable.

I don’t understand why Marvel doesn’t put their most POPULAR, tried and true characters in the game.
If they’ve had a movie made about them in the last ten years, you’d think they’d want to put them in the stupid game.
For example, aside from Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Spidey:

Cable, Colossus, Gambit, Iceman, Psylocke, Rogue, Omega Red, Venom, Thanos all missing but the biggest one has to be Cyclops. Where’s the xmen love. That’s just for starters on the the Marvel side. No Bison, Jill Valentine,, i know gimmick character but no B.B hood,,, PLUS NO STRIDER

Having X-23 would be the equivalent of having bone-claw Wolverine again. Mr. Fantastic seems superfluous since you have the Super-Skrull. Shuma-Gorath is just a ridiculous character to hold on to. Emma Frost is good as a replacement for Psylocke. I love that Mike Haggar is in it! I also love that Viewtiful Joe is in the game. War Machine and Iron Man seems silly, why not just Iron Man? Elektra bores me and I think Moon Knight would have been a better choice.

The list is not completely correct. They have confirmed the Fantastic Four and Emma Frost will NOT be in the game. They will put in all the Marvel heavyweights first. So it’s not too hard to guess. Please only 2 or 3 X-Men this time.

I don’t think anyone should be disappointed once the official list comes out because a game like this was made for DLC. Sure, there may be around 30 at launch, but you know they’re going to have more available later.

WHY do we have to suffer from two SHOTOS in every god damn crossover.
I love Ryu and Akuma and the Shotos in Street Fighter don’t get me wrong but i am sick of seeing other characters being left out just so Akuma or Ken can star alongside Ryu arghhhhhh there is only one/two moves at most difference between all three of them.
Out of the 30+ other Street Fighter characters they could of picked..yet….. surprise surprise, Two Shotos and Chun Li.
What even rubs the salt in worse is they could of just gave Ryu the option to turn into Evil Ryu and then he would have the exact same moves as Akuma as well! Then put someone else in.
Dissapointed but will still be getting the game.
