Awesome.
These will be released at San Diego Comic-Con this year at the Marvel booth, and both are gorgeous in my eyes. Thor battling his evil brother Loki on what looks like to be some sort of mountain or bridge. Thor looking majestic as ever, with Loki looking sinister as ever.
You also have Captain America, with his iconic shield posed in the heat of battle.
So what say you, readers? Do these posters add to your excitement or what?

Painted art makes me really excited for the movie. I’m sure it’ll look that good in the finished product. Are we seriously judging these and including concept as hype?
July 20th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
cool.
And I guess the Thor poster answers the question as to whether or not he’ll wear a helmet.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
There both beautifully painted but the one with Thor and Loki fighting is spectacular!
July 20th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Finally. Something that looks authentic. Real.
July 20th, 2010 at 10:23 pm
Thor looks pretty cool. Cap looks just downright dopey.
July 20th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Thor looks fantastic! Truly godlike but Captain America on the other hand looks…um…well, I guess I’d say “clunky”.
There’s no way that look is dynamic or awe inspiring. For me it’s proof positive why this notion that superhero costume need to “make sense” doesn’t work or “reimagining” sucks the imagination out of it. I’m okay with the overall idea of it being WWII military based but all of those huge belt pouches and the mask that looks like a little league helmet are just kind of lousy looking.
I’ll keep my hopes up though because at it’s core it’s still a great story for a flick.
July 20th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
I’m a DC guy but those look AWESOME!!! LOVE CAP’S OUTFIT!!
July 20th, 2010 at 11:02 pm
Wait to see the Marvel booth at Comic Con. I was inside the hall today and its the Odin throne at the Thor movie.
July 20th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
I like the Capt. America costume, but his big white tummy is awfully distracting.
July 20th, 2010 at 11:15 pm
The red stripes are way too thin…otherwise It’s not too bad
July 20th, 2010 at 11:47 pm
Is Cap holding a GUN?!?!
July 21st, 2010 at 12:54 am
No, he’s holding a PISTOL. His gun is safely tucked away, awaiting shore leave.
July 21st, 2010 at 1:13 am
cappacappa Says:
“Is Cap holding a GUN?!?!”
No one had a problem with Iron Man killing his enemies in his movie.
I don’t see any problem with CA using a pistol in a wartime setting. In fact it’d look pretty ludicrous him not having and using one. It’s not the comic after all, and it doesn’t detract from his character or story significantly.
July 21st, 2010 at 4:42 am
I’m a DC guy and I must say I miss those painted movie posters and THOR looks EPIC
July 21st, 2010 at 6:22 am
Personally, I just don’t get how Marvel thinks. “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Isn’t that the aphorism? Why they feel the need to make superhero costumes “more realistic” is beyond me. “Superhero” and “realistic” don’t go hand in hand. Fact is, they never have. I mean, do any of us believe a man can fly, or shoot webs out of his wrists?
Secondly, I will neve understand their selection of Chris Evans as Captain America — the LEADER of the Avengers. This should have been a NAME actor, not some low-budget Ryan Reynolds wannabe. Everything about is Chris Evans and his on-camera persona is the exact opposite of Cap. Cap’s not snarky; he’s stoic — dignified. Immutable in his moral character, etc., etc. He’s the FACE and SPIRIT of what not only embodies America but the entire TEAM as well. When you think Avengers, you first think Cap! So why would you cut salary corners and go this route with a mediocre no-name actor? More than anyone else on the entire team, this should have been the biggest and best actor they got!
Not only that, but a film is only as good as its director. Why in the world would you culminate the Avengers movie with the worst and cheapest directorial choice out of any these lead-in movies? Why wouldn’t you go with someone dependable and reputable when it comes to making box-office gold and critics swoon? If this is to bethe end-all be-all of supehero flicks and the benchmark standard, wouldn’t you want quality behind the helm? After all “You get what you pay for,” and you “Save the best for last,” right? But no, we hire Joss Whedon! — whose only film was a complete and utter tank both at the box office and with critics. Hell, This guy can’t even keep a TV show on the air — let alone direct a movie! Again, why would you cut salary corners here?
Again, I just don’t get it. These are just common sense marketing axioms that everyone in business, except apparently Marvel, knows and follows. Why does Marvel think they’re so damn special that they should ignore this stuff? Then again, these are the same creative geniuses that can’t even get their two most popular characters, Spider-man and Wolverine, into the top 10 best-selling monthly brackets anymore without making them Avengers.
July 21st, 2010 at 6:56 am
Wow.. There is a lot of people drinking that Haterade… Lighten up children its a movie.
July 21st, 2010 at 6:59 am
Wow I completely disagree with just about everything you said. Evans’s onscreen persona is snarky? It’s called acting there buddy. And who really wants a huge name actor for Cap or any major Marvel hero. A lot of times the big name is what the movie becomes about instead of the character. Heck Christopher Reeves wasn’t a big name at the time of the first Superman movie and most people would say that’s the iconic portrayal of the character. Maybe Evans will be too. Then again maybe he won’t. Either way save the whining till after the movie comes out.
July 21st, 2010 at 7:18 am
I can think of a simple reason why Evans may have been chosen for the role, or at least one of the reasons. Rightly or wrongly Edward Norton on The Incredible Hulk was perceived to not be a team player and thus a detriment to an ensemble movie like The Avengers. I have no firsthand knowledge, but something happened that was serious enough to go public.
Chris Evans OTOH has demonstrated that he can appeear in a team movie involving superheroes without any public conflicts. That could well have been one of the factors in the decision to cast him, since they want to minimize further recasting for The Avengers where possible.
July 21st, 2010 at 7:25 am
Looks like Loki or Thor are fighting on Bifrost, and its fragmenting from the power they’re using.
Also, Cap should be carrying a submachine gun or a stolen MP-44.
July 21st, 2010 at 7:40 am
No, these aren’t real movie posters. Studios don’t use painted art these days, they use badly photoshopped montages that look like they were put together by the art department interns. It’s a nice thought, but we are not going to see these things hanging up at the local multiplex.
July 21st, 2010 at 8:43 am
So…. why should I pay heed to any criticism, right or wrong, when it’s written by a person named “New Marvel Sucks”.
Unless, that is your REAL name right?
You wouldn’t take the time and effort to give a critique on any subject under a phony name, right?
July 21st, 2010 at 8:46 am
As someone who works in the industry, I’d guess these aren’t movie posters so much as large-scale cardboard displays for multiplexes. Wouldn’t be surprised if the characters are on a separate cardboard layer for relief effect.
July 21st, 2010 at 9:05 am
Hmm Loki has a helmet and Thor doesn’t….should we be worried?

Victor Says: “Hmm Loki has a helmet and Thor doesn’t… should we be worried?”
If that’s all it takes to worry you, you lead a pretty charmed life, and should thank God every morning for the good fortune of waking up to it.
July 21st, 2010 at 10:47 am
I think both Thor and Cap look pretty great and I also think Chris Evans is going to surprise everyone and do a great job.
It’s a shame because I’m more of a Green Lantern guy and after seeing some of the promos and suit for GL, I’ve lost all my enthusiasm for the film.
July 21st, 2010 at 10:57 am
I think these look awesome, in my opinion. I’m hoping they make reprints to sell. i’d hang these on my wall in a heartbeat. It makes me remember my childhood, when a new Star wars or Indiana Jones flick would be coming out, and you got goosebumps when you saw the poster (which was painted art) hanging in the theater. Cap is everything I figured he’s look like (The Ultimate version) and I have to admit I’m surprised they went with Thor’s curreny look (I also thought he’d be in that stupid Ultimate costume). As for him being helmet-less. Oh well beggers can’t be choosers. It could be worse, I mean they could have had him use a sword instead of his hammer (I just threw up in my my mouth as I tyoed that).
July 21st, 2010 at 12:12 pm
@bobbyp
You mean you’ve never seen Evans off-screen? Trust me, he’s NOT acting. His personality is just like Ryan Reynolds’s — the smarm charm is always on.
He played a great Johnny Storm because he IS Johnny Storm. Captain America he is not.
July 21st, 2010 at 12:46 pm
@New Marvel Sucks
You mean you’ve never seen him in Sunshine?
The guy has played plenty of roles without the smarm charm. I think, like Heath Ledger’s Joker, this guy is going to surprise us all on this one.
July 21st, 2010 at 1:44 pm
New Marvel Sucks wrote : “Cap’s not snarky; he’s stoic — dignified. Immutable in his moral character, etc., etc. He’s the FACE and SPIRIT of what not only embodies America but the entire TEAM as well.”
Is “stoic”, “dignified”, and “immutable in moral character” how Americans still view themselves?
Really? Even in 2010?
Have you taken a good look at what type of athlete Americans champion, or what type of so-called “hero” they look up to today? What their behavior is like towards other nations, or even what their behavior is like towards each other?
Cap might have been a fine mascot for Reagan’s America, but that was several decades ago. The America you’re talking about has fallen several pegs, and been replaced by snarky, overweight people who champion individual success, regardless of the cost to the greater whole.
LeBron James, BP, McDonald’s, Lindsay Lohan… this is your America today. So I dunno about you, but a snarky/smarmy Captain America flashing a wink and plastic smile seems to fit right with all of the above.
Unhappy about it? Good. Do something about it. Rebuild America into the country the rest of us used to look up to. Because believe me, my friend… it’s a long, long ways from living up to its own opinion itself.
July 21st, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Jakey, Jakey, about to make a big mistakey.
July 21st, 2010 at 3:57 pm
But see — and hopefully this is the point you were trying to make, Anal — Cap’s ideals and morals regarding America and true liberty and justice for all have never faltered; even when America does. He was never meant to be a mascot, but rather, like his shield, a symbol — a living, breathing platitude that can’t be broken under the strongest pressure or made to change with time.
Sure, the East (including our forefathers)have always predicted the West’s decline. And if Cap were a man in our world today, he WOULD believe as you do: that America HAS effortlessly eroded. Heck, not only would he would want to do something about it, but he would rally us to chime in, too!
After all, this is how Cap has always been portrayed in comic books: as a protector and savior — a patriarchal, unaging, reminder of how we as Americans should be and live our lives. As fans, why wouldn’t we want the essence of what has always made Cap so great to be portrayed on screen regardless of the state of the world we live in? Wouldn’t we want a Captain America portrayed in a way that gives us AND the rest of the world cause to look in the mirror, to give us hope and dreams of unity — for that something more deep down inside that we should all aspire to? I know that’s what Cap’s comic book creators would want.
What’s more, despite their steep moral decline over the last ten years under Quesada’s reign, shouldn’t Marvel, too?
July 21st, 2010 at 5:00 pm
ITS A MOVIE!!!!!!
Who cares?
July 22nd, 2010 at 2:56 am
@New Marvel Sucks:
Evan has been able to serious roles before and he’ll do fine as Cap. Besides, at that point in WWII Cap was in his early 20′s. If anything, he’s a fine choice for Cap and the choices for Skull and Bucky are great as well.
Of course you are clearly bias and you would bash any actor they’d pick.
And no Marvel shouldn’t, because there isn’t a “Moral decline”( Talk about hyperbole).
July 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 am
Chris Evans is not even close to being Cap! BOOO! >:-(
July 22nd, 2010 at 7:49 am
As much sense as it makes, I really hate the “Cap wearing a helmet” look instead of his mask. Just makes me think of special Ed from crank yankers. Still, I guess it makes sense during war scenes that he’d wear one, but I hope when we get to the avengers he is wearing his mask (wings, A and all).
Posters look cool, though. And in Thor’s case, I hope we do see his winged helmet at some point during the movie.
July 22nd, 2010 at 9:19 am
@MVC
Actually, the only actors I’ve bashed that Marvel has picked have been Affleck as Daredevil and Cage as Ghost Rider. And we both know how much critical acclaim those two flicks received.
Unlike the rest of Evans’s fanboys, I don’t give a damn about your stupid “Sunshine” — a movie that garned a “barely fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and raked in a mere 3.4 million at the box office.
The logic behind his selection as the leader of the Avengers is absolutely ludicrous. Again, you get what you pay for. Mark my words, this movie will be lambasted by critics; but no doubt it will make money. It’s a shame it won’t be able to do both.
But take my words with a grain of salt, I’ve only been right about every Marvel movie, so far.
July 22nd, 2010 at 10:11 am
At one point I heard that John Krazynski, (I hope that’s how you spell it)you know Jim Halpert from The Office, was in the lead to play Cap, and at another point I heard that John Cena was in the lead to play him. If any of these are true, I will absolutely take Chris Evans. I’ll reserve final judgement for when I see the movie. I remember being just one of millions of fans that was saying “Michael Keaton? Seriously? The guy who played Mr. Mom and Beetleguice is going to be Batman?”
July 22nd, 2010 at 11:59 am
@ Frank
Yes, you’re right. That just shows you how much money Marvel was willing to invest into the most recognizable and important figure of the Avengers. Sad, isn’t it?
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Why didn’t they just hire someone like Matt Damon (an actor with a proven track record and experience in Hollywood) to play Cap???
July 25th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
ok how can jonhy storm be cap i don’t understand how( marvel )they think what if the avengers need ff help what happens then you can.t have the same persom play two different roles i have high hopes for this movie

Interesting comments above… hey all good!! We do have a right to our views that’s called freedom of speach!!…hmmm.
I think that Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico) from Starship Troopers would of also been a great Captain America. He has the look and profile of a Kirby drawing of Cap!! What do you think…Would you like to know more?
I think the very cool thing to remember is that the heroes are finally pumping it out into the movies big time!! This world does need them!! …
I wonder if Marvels Jack (King) Kirby and Stan (the man) Lee would have ever dreamed this day would come!! …Sad that Jack did not live to see all this come to pass!!…AN AMAZING TALENT INDEED!!
I would of liked to see Cap with the “wings” on his helmet though. Iron man did call him winghead after all…NUFF SAID!!

I’d have to clinch the deal with you here. Which is not something I typically do! I love reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!

I am a hardcore, lifelong comic fan of all companies. I have supported junk franchises like the TV shows in the 70s, etc.
I have to say that I am sick as hell of the terrible Marvel attempts. This was the last straw. Picking a shrimp like the actor who played the Torch was bad enough, but he isn’t even a good enough actor to get this small role. I agree with the Matt Damon picks. An unknown would have been fine, if he fit the part.
At the comic side, Marvel is creatively dead. They haven’t had one original idea since the “Heroes reborn” fiasco. That storyline, combined with the millon “Spider-clones” variant covers, and mutant everything, drove me away from a product that I have purchased my entire life.

Dude, please tell me which youre planning to publish a much more.
