In a somewhat quiet and press-release-free announcement, Sony Online Entertainment has revealed to IGN that DCU Online finally has a release date. The in-development title has been shown off with countless new character models and screenshots over the course of the last 2 years or so, and will be hitting shelves in November 2010.
The massively multiplayer online role playing game will see players create their own heroes and villains to fight alongside and against the characters from DC Comics’s superhero universe. More details on the release are promised at E3 2010, and we’ll be there to get the latest for you.

It won’t be difficult for Sony/DC to upstage the complete upset that MUA 2 was/is…If I had a PS3 I would be into this…

Interesting, sooner then I’d thought. I’d like to beta test before committing, and this will go up against my beloved Lord of the Rings Online as I’m sure they will have a paid expansion in Nov. Then there is Star Wars The Old Republic in the Spring.
If I can’t beta then I’ll rely on reviews and word of mouth on whether to try this.

Very happy about this. I’ve been waiting on this game for a few years now. My g/f just got me a PS3 as an early b-gay gift, and I’ve got a list of characters that are just begging to get into this game.

I WAS kind of looking forward to this, way back when it was announced. I lost a little faith when I heard SOE was going to publish, but I wasn’t shaken too much. THEN… I heard it was going to be on the PS3 as well as PC… That’s when any hope I had of it being of any good quality went away.
Now… I own a PS3. Don’t get me wrong. I love the platform. But the game is going to have to be dumbed down substantially so that it will work with the controller set up for the console. When it comes to MMOs, I’m hardcore pc.
And the the Ed McGuinness-esque art is a HUGE turn-off. I thought Jim Lee was the art director on this. Everyone involved should be ashamed for making it so freaking cartoony looking. That’s one of my problems with Champions.
The only thing left about DCUO that has any draw for me is Geoff Johns being in charge of story content.

@Brodi
My wife and I played FFXI for 3 years on both PC and PS2 and the transition was pretty seamless. We would swap which machine we played on pretty frequently and had no issues. I actually preferred the PS2 controller set up after awhile.
