Check out Chris Hemsworth as Thor

April 30th, 2010
Author David Pepose

And lo,  there came a day when Latino Review posted an image of the Thunder God himself — what say ye?

Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Verily. Do you guys dig the look, or do you shout out “nay”? If you’re itching for some more Thor news, Latino Review also has a pic of an old-school adversary of Thor’s, which will be making its way to the big screen. Either which way, Hemsworth will pick up Mjolnir May 6, 2011.

    YiiiiiiHaaaaaaaaa…..thou shall fall his hamma…

  2. Jerome Cain Says:

    Nice!
The costume looks a lot like the recent Thor redesign! I just hope Chris Hemsworth can act!

    I SAY THEE YEA

  4. Another Ian Says:

Looks pretty alright. Shouldn’t his arms be covered in chain or scale armor…not a skin tight sleeve with a hatch pattern on it? I am just hoping that the armors don’t look too fake because it appears they are going for a bit of the over-the-top Kirby style here…yo well.

  5. Dennis Says:

Wow!!! He looked way better than I expected. I was totally expecting the Ultimates costume.

  6. Fred Says:

What I perceived as chain mail in the comic looks like molded rubber for this costume. Thus I must verily say, “meh.” However, I will save final judgment for the film.

  7. CapCanuk Says:

Looks good!!!! Now bring on pics of Sif and Loki!

  8. Radomski Says:

Do you realize how HEAVY Chain mail is?? They’re in costume for hours on a set, do you honestly think they’d be able to wear 100lbs of plate armor and leather?

  9. Fred Says:

We can put a man on the moon (or can we? ;) ), but we can’t make chain mail look real? Have you seen any of the LOTR films? Seems like Weta Workshop could do it pretty easily. Again, I’m reserving judgment for the film. The rest of the costume looks great, I just was expecting a little more.

  10. Chris Says:

They managed fine in LOTR with chain and plate armour

  11. DHM Says:

I have an idea how heavy chain mail can be, but if it’s gonna look rubbery then use something else. There have to be many other designs for Thor.

  12. Simon DelMonte Says:

Looks OK, but I find myself overwhelmed with apathy about all things Thor. The only writer who made him even the least bit interesting to me was PAD when Thor made a guest appearance in Captain Marvel. Otherwise, he is just not my kind of hero.

  13. Lan Pitts Says:

    Love it!

Wow. I expected better responses from the Newsarama crowd than this grousing. Go take a look at the Thor in “The Incredible Hulk Returns” TV movie and come back to this image with fresh eyes. Marvel is at least giving us something that looks like a legitimate comic book version. I like the sculpted muscular arm in the pic. Also, I hope you all caught that spot-on image of the Destroyer that popped up briefly online earlier today — amazing.

  15. SuperheroTV Says:

Looks fantastic. As for the rubbery chain mail, etc… take a look at some of the original Iron Man pics and it has plastic components… but in the movie, it is touched up to look like metal. Plus, love the high shouldering of the cape. Classic!!

  16. jedimastercap Says:

ohhh…looks like they choosed the modern desing of Thor’s costume and not the original.

  17. azcomicjock Says:

Wow, he is going to look so hot! love the scruff and the hair. Hope he is rendered shirtless for the movie too! Woof!!!

  18. Scott William Foley Says:

The costume looks rich and regal – the stuff of gods. This is far BETTER than I expected.

  19. Wendell Says:

Looking good so far. I wasn’t expecting to see THOR in the red cape, but I suspect it’s only going to be worn for a short period of time in the beginning of the movie, perhaps during a ceremony or Asgardian banquet. Similar to the way men wear suits to Church, Christmas parties and other formal gatherings, THOR will wear the red cape during regal, ceremonial occasions. It would make sense that he would dress in the Ultimates attire for battle. If he’s in the cape the entire movie, I’d be ecstatic, but I’d also be content with the Ultimates look, as well. I just can’t wait to see a full image of him standing with Mjolnir and wearing the winged helmet.

THOR has been my favorite superhero character dating back to 1982 and being a 43-year old fan of the Norse God and seeing him on the big screen will truly be a dream come true.

Thank you MARVEL for all the superhero movies you’ve brought to the theaters (beginning with Blade). With each release of a comic book movie adaptation (yes, even Electra and Punisher: War Zone), I feel as if I’m being “rewarded” for my 30-years of reading comic books. I look forward to experiencing THOR, Captain America, Iron Man 3 and Avengers and every other movie on the slate for the next 20+ years. It’s an awesome time to be a comic book fan!

    Make Mine MARVEL!

“They managed fine in LOTR with chain and plate armour”

Only, 90% of the time that wasn’t real mail and plate armor, but ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic that does a very good job mimicking the look of metal when painted. Great when filmed at a distance, but not on close ups.

Of course, they had real copies made of the swords and armors, but they were not lugged around by the actors every day.

  21. eaj Says:

not sure why so many ppl are condoning this. thor doesn’t have rubber on his arms, he wears chainmail/scalemail now. and those big silver round things on his chest are meant to be platemail… sigh. could be worse, he could have bat-nipples.

  22. charles smiley Says:

    Want to see more!!!!!!

  23. Gordon Says:

In the movie, it will look metal. That’s the magic of cinematography, folks.

  24. Nate Says:

Awesome! I’m more excited than ever now! I’m not really bothered by the chain mail thing (or lack of chain mail). It looks exactly like it’s drawn in the comics. It’s never really drawn like chain mail, so it should be no surprise that they didn’t make it chain mail. I think it’ll look fine.

  25. Charles Says:

I have got you beat Wendell. I am a 52yr old, who has been a fan of Marvel comics since I was 4(except for a short period when Jack “King” Kirby went to DC and started drawing Superman).Thor has been my ultimate superhero from day 1.

I will admit I am more of fan of his original costume, but he still looks great to me.

I cannot wait for the movie.

    Always ‘Make Mine Marvel’
