Jonah Hex trailer finally unleashed

April 29th, 2010
Author Lan Pitts

The feel is there. I think Brolin nailed down the voice and mannerisms and of course, Malkovich doing this usually creepy schtick. I’ve heard Fox doesn’t have that huge of a role, but her line delivery still makes me want to cringe. Some people just aren’t made for Southern accents. I wish the studio had done more publicity than it has. It just seems odd that a movie coming out in a month and a half finally has a trailer out. Especially one that has the potential to be a Summer blockbuster and possibly franchise.

You can check it out over here.

I’ll still be lined up to see it. I’m a sucker for Westerns with a twist, but I don’t recall Hex having any super-natural powers. What do you think, readers? Does this trailer show enough potential to get your metaphorical horses riled up?

We’ll see though. Jonah Hex rides into theaters June 18th.

Got a link to that trailer, bub? ;)

  2. Cisco Kid Says:

That is not at all what I wanted from the movie. Much more punished war games meets wild wild west. There are moments that seem like Jonah Hex peering through… Then he talks to a ghost :-(

Hey, Rev. Sorry for that. Hope that makes things a bit prettier for you.

Something like 6 people saw it at a test screening and posted reviews on Ain’t It Cool earlier this week. To put it mildly, the reviews were brutal. Apparently the only good point is Brolin, sounded like literally everything else was garbage, and Wild, Wild West (the movie) comparisons abounded (and not as compliments.)

Hopefully Martin Campbell can pull off Green Lantern, or DC’s new movie push is gonna be over before it begins…

    Oh my god……………………………
What the hell did they do to this character?????

    Super Powers?
    Cheesy makeup?
A lousy actress who couldn’t speak with a southern accent if her life depended on it.

They rewrote his origin, though it didn’t need rewritten.

Wow, this looks really, really BAD.

The guy who played Daniels on The Wire gives him crossbows that shoot dynamite. That’s at least worth a dollar movie, there.

  7. Wesley Smith Says:

This is… unfortunate. What makes Jonah Hex such a compelling series (both the original and current) is the grittiness of it. The thing that makes him work as a character is that he’s more of a representation of death and justice than a fully realized character.

I was expecting something more like The Good the Bad and the Ugly or Unforgiven, and it looks like we’re getting Desperado. Not a bad movie, certainly, but not what I think of when I think of Jonah Hex.

Of course, we could all be wrong here. While this is clearly being marketed as a summer Baysplosions flick, that doesn’t mean it has to be.

Did movie execs learn nothing from LXG?!?

    NOTHING?!?

    [shakes head in disgust]

  9. Wesley Smith Says:

LXG! THAT’S what this preview reminded me of.

  10. Howard Says:

Haha—a the flashback in the middle of the trailer to the beginning of the trailer.

What were they thinking? Trying to rip off a scene from Fistful of Dollars into gatling guns on the horse… All around, the trailer looks terrible. I think it’ll drive audiences away. At least we’re getting fair warning.

  11. Howard Says:

Studios hear the words “comic book movie” and lose all good sense.

  12. Jenny Says:

Perhaps this movie will fail so badly that Megan Fox will have to do porn.

    Yes, I’m a girl.

  13. Richard J. Marcej Says:

Hmmmm… too bad the writers and producers of this film didn’t have, ya know, some written, published material from the last 30 odd years that they could refer too when writing the script. Or maybe even some form of publication that would have provided visuals, so they could get the look done correctly.

    Oh that’s right…. THEY DID!

At movie ticket prices hovering around $13 I am definitely going to pass on this one and just add it to my Netflix queue in October.

  15. Johnny.Blaze Says:

I geeked out at Brolin. I mean he IS Hex. Got the voice, the dark humor and the look.

Unfortunately, it looks like Wild Wild West 2. Thats a BAD thing REALLY bad.

All that being said i will sneak into this after seeing Iron man for a 3rd time.

  16. K Stevens Says:

    Brolin as Hex – Good
Everything else (including Megan Fox) – GOD AWFUL
