I gotta give credit where it’s due, and I’m HARDLY referring to myself by taking credit for having a role is this development. Last Thanksgiving, I called into question how DC Direct had to date failed to come up with any relevant product based on the “New Krypton” storyline found in all the Superman books for over the last year.
With a little help, I broke down four well-rounded waves of characters, heroes and villains, to best represent this ongoing storyline in action figure form. Well, in February, DC Direct finally came through and solicited the first of what I hope is AT LEAST three waves of figures. I’m not going to lie to you, Superman: New Krypton Series 1 more than exceeded my expectations. There’s not a stinker in the bunch.

The combination of the Man of Steel in his Military Guild uniform, along with Mon-El, Superwoman and Brainiac is as well-rounded as Superman fans can ask for (completely opposite of the unfortunate “Batman: Reborn” action figure series set to come out this year).
Now for the next time, and let me just say, there better be at least two more “next times,” because there’s still ground to cover. In one fell swoop, this image displays exactly who should make up the next four. I sincerely hope that THIS Nightwing and Flamebird have a place in the DCU when the whole “New Krypton” storyline wraps, by the way. And after that? I’d say Non is way overdue, along with Metallo and Parasite, plus this handsome devil seems appropriate now.
What say ye, Superman fans?

It’s a sprawling cast, and I’m not sure where you decide. I’d like to see Guardian with a shiny shield, and it would be nifty to get a modern Jimmy Olsen and Lois in there. You’d have to consider Alura, etc… too. And, hey, what about those Legionnaires? So, yes, if DC felt like expanding to cover all those bases, I’d likely be in. And I get the feeling that us Superman fans are some of the more avid collectors, so…

I don’t think Olsen would be a good one, there are a lot of characters to explore at the moment and I think they will go with the ones that have more marketing appeal. Just my 2 cents.
By the way what do you guys think of dc direct’s blackest night action figures?

I think Tellus would be great here. Since DC Direct seems reluctant to do Legion lines, this would be an opportunity for them to do a cool-looking member of the team that’s totally tied to this story.

It is likely Olsen would not be as shiny as other members of the cast and the point is well taken, but he did get two specials written into the series. If they did one of Codename: Assassin, I’d hope Olsen would get his due.
But… it’d also be nice to get some modern versions of any of the Superman supporting cast for any reason, whether included in this series or not.

Say what you will about DC Direct, they release stuff a little bit later than usual but compared to company like say Mattel, at least they know a thing about producing enough product and not relying on marketing scarcity tactics to force customers into buying their stuff. Much less overpricing it.

Luthor in orange prison garb or Zod is a must for the next wave.
