Robert Buckley in Captain America?

March 3rd, 2010
Author David Pepose

I know it’s early to be talking about casting rumors for the Captain America movie (although not too early — we’re going to have to start hearing things sometime soon if this movie is going to make its deadline), but Comic Book Movie has a post up that I certainly could see happening.

According to them, Lipstick Jungle’s Robert Buckley has been in the running either for Bucky Barnes or for Steve Rogers himself. (Although Comic Book Movie has amended their post, leaning more for Bucky than for the original Sentinel of Liberty himself.) Now, Buckley wasn’t on the list with the rest of the five “other” Caps — including John Krasinski from the Office — but already I could see the resemblance.

With the Avengers “Trinity” really holding up the franchise, we know we’ve got a winner in Robert Downey Jr., but if Thor and Cap don’t measure up to the high bar he set, the movie may very well be sunk. What say you, Rama readers? Does Buckley make the cut?

Absolutely, he would be perfect! If they can’t get Jensen Ackles or Garret Hedlund to play Steve, Rob is the next best thing.

But not for Bucky, get Gordon-Levitt to play him.

I’m inclined to agree that we have a winner in Robert Downey Jr.

As to Thor – I just don’t know.

I’ve written a lot of Thor fan fiction over the years on sites like fan fiction net, Alavro’s Comics Thor Message Board and (for quite a while) SFF World.

Quite a lot of people read my work and I’ve noticed an upsurge in interest in Thor since the announcement of the movie from people who are not normally Thor fans (ie: they’ve probably never ever read a single Marvel Thor comic).

Anyways, if you get a chance to check out some of my (predominantly) Thor fan fic, you can find it here:

What? You didn’t want to spend time searching for a shirtless picture of Buckley yourself? :P

I take it you’ve never heard of either Aaron Eckhart or Mark Valley.

I know, I know, the studio and director are clearly convinced they need to cast a young Cap… Given how perfect Downey was as Iron Man, and given how they should have a Cap who’s similar in age, stature and can convincingly stand toe to toe with Downey’s Tony Stark, I don’t understand this reasoning.

  6. Melissa Says:

I don’t see a problem with a younger Cap but you’re right that he has to be able to be an equal to Downey’s Iron Man. That’s my issue with Buckley. I watch (and love) One Tree Hill and I enjoy him on the show but I don’t watch him and think oh he could definitely transition into the role of Captain America. Jensen Ackles is a younger guy who I think could both look the part and act the character.

As for Bucky-he seems a worse choice there. Joseph Gordon-Levitt definitely fits.

(Obviously the studio is going younger but Mark Valley would be a great older Captain America.)

I personaly believe that Jensen Ackles would be the best choice for Capatin America, he’s a good actor who’s waiting for tha break out roll and i think this would be perfect.

And for Bucky i think it should be Joseph Gordon-Levitt or maybe Emile Hirsch, he looks just like Winter Soilder when he first came around.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next article, I will try to get the hang of it! Regards, Watch Boondocks

I have been browsing on-line greater than three hours these days, yet I never found any fascinating article like yours. It’s lovely worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the internet can be much more useful than ever before.
