I'd guess you could count this as a good thing. Ron Perlman would make sense as a replacement I'd think. His Hellboy work more than speaks for itself.

I'm with Richard... Lobo's just not an interesting character and I don't see it as a good film either. I never understood how the character could be a reasonable match for Supes (as the picture above suggests). Let's see how the GL movie turns out, and then look to other more bankable properties (Flash? Wonder Woman? a true Superman reboot?) before moving on to characters like Lobo.

I also agree with D. Peace about Sherlock Holmes. It was very entertaining, and while liberties were taken it was actually more true to Doyle's books than people might realize. I thought it was a fun ride, even though I know I missed a lot due to the film's rapid pace, and I look forward to seeing Holmes match wits with Moriarty in the sequel.

HOLMES is a perfect fit for Ritchie and the first one was really entertaining. LOBO, on the other hand, is an unproven quantity (at least in terms of being the subject of a feature film) and has absolutely tremendous potential to fall flat on its face. I'm glad for this news.

Considering that this is intended to be PG-13, I'd rather the project completely die until somebody comes along who wants to take the whole thing more seriously.

I've always felt that Lobo was a boring, one-note character.
So yes, I'd rather watch a Guy Ritchie "Holmes" sequel than any film featuring Lobo.
