Just when you thought it was safe to travel across the multiverse…
Marvel has announced that they will take another bite out of the undead market, with Fred Van Lente and Kano taking on Marvel Zombies 5!
“What I’ve tried to do ever since they gave me the Zombies assignment was to do something different every time,” Van Lente told Marvel.com. “Folks who read [MARVEL ZOMBIES 4] know that at the end Jack Russell, Werewolf by Night, was infested with the zombie virus. Morbius the Living Vampire wants to cure his friend and in order to do that he needs to somehow figure out a way to unlock a cure for zombie-ism. He recruits his old pal Machine Man from MARVEL ZOMBIES 3, who is back and is again the star of the series, and sends him across the multiverse to take samples from different kinds of zombies.”
That, my friends, is the way to get ahead in comics. Or some other kind of severed limb. The book is due out this April.

I don’t know if bringing back Machine Man and having him going into another universe counts as doing something different. But then again, I love Machine Man and MZ3, so I don’t mind at all. Can’t wait for this.

I might be the only person actually into this, especially after the awful Marvel Zombies 4. Zombies Return wasn’t that bad actually. As long as they keep Fraction and Bendis’ pet characters away, things may improve.

If I hadn’t decided to drop everything Marvel, I wouldn’t be getting this. I am very over Marvel Zombies.

I am VERY happy that Fred is doing another Marvel Zombies book with Machine Man. I thought Fred totally nailed Machine Man’s character in the MZ3, and look forward to seeing him again in MZ5. The only news that would be better would be an ongoing Machine Man title with Fred writing it!

The article today on Comic Book Resources makes it pretty clear (as I suspected from the start) that Machine Man’s travelling companion will be Howard the Duck. This should be an incredibly fun series, I’m really looking forward to it – Machine Man is possibly my favorite character, and Howard the Duck isn’t far behind! Fred said in the interview that he’d love to do an ongoing Machine Man series – I hope he gets the chance.
