Yeah, but Patrick Stewart and Paul McCartney (for just two examples) are so awesome that I don't mind or care.

Anyone can become a Sir, Lord, Lady, Baron etc. etc. in the UK as that's how corrupt we have become.

All you have to do is pay a big enough back hander to the government parties and they nominate you and then choose you for the award that the Queen just grants it because she has no power and has to sit back and do everything parliament says, I believe ''SIR'' Patrick's price was 100k.

Anyway the moral of this story is, got enough cash, and you too can be a knight of the realm regardless of nationality or ideology.

Thanks, Bill! I will watch for that...

Oh, and a correction to my previous post. The line from the movie Jeffrey is "Do I look like a gay superhero?" You have to see the movie to understand the context, but needless to say it was hilarious.

He just played Claudius against David "The Doctor" Tennant's Hamlet, both on stage and in a BBC TV movie that will hit PBS sometime this year.

Didn't know that... I like Family Guy OK, but I don't see it often. American Dad's probably good satire, but I've never really watched it.

I've seen Stewart in a number of good films: Conspiracy Theory, LA Story, and (most hilariously) Jeffrey... Best line in that last one: "Do I like a gay superhero?" The TV movie of A Christmas Carol was pretty good, but not as fun as hearing his one-man show/reading of the same (My family and I listen to our CD of it every year at the holidays).

I've also had the pleasure of seeing him on stage twice. First, in the early 90's in a great play called Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (with a bunch of other TNG actors)in Chicago, then in Shakespeare's The Tempest on B'way back in '95. Great stuff.

[What’s Sir Patrick done since then? Perhaps more stage work? Or maybe he’s just chosen to slow down? He’ll be (gasp) 70 later this year.]

Well, he IS the voice of the CIA director on American Dad. And he and the rest of the ST:TNG crew did their own voices for an appearance on Family Guy. Best line: Michael Dorn complains about Patrick upstaging everyone while they were doing TNG, and Stewart replies: "Oh, f**k you, Michael!"

Robert Pattinson isn't fit to shine Sir Patrick Stewart's shoes.

It's only a shame we haven't seen more of him in recent years. TNG was a great show for the most part, but aside from First Contact the TNG movies were abysmal (I mean, Shatner's performance was easily the best part of the otherwise dreary "Generations"). The first two X-Men were good flicks (esp. X2), but they killed Xavier off for no good reason in X3 and pretty much destroyed that whole franchise. Xavier never even got to do much, except be victimized, in each of those movies.

Long overdue and well deserved. Sir Patrick Stewart could read the yellow pages and make it compelling
