DC has long promised that there was a second wave of Red Circle superhero comics coming. Today on The Source, that promise is fulfilled. Rachel Gluckstern is sharing concepts, characters and sketches from Marc Guggenheim, Talent Caldwell, Duncan Rouleau and Powers‘ own Michael Avon Oeming on the project in the coming year.
There’s an Inferno miniseries and a writer change announcement for The Web in the works, too; head over to The Source for a half-dozen graphics and more announcements than you can shake a Riverdale High baseball bat at.

Kick-Ass!

Cool news!
I do wonder if DC will go ahead with some “obvious yet interesting” team-ups for the Red Circle characters and other DCU characters. Things like:
The Shield meets Citizen Steel
Jaguar meets Catman
The Fox meets Batman
etc., to show the obvious similarities and highlight the major distinctions.

I don’t think that’s what the blog said exactly. Currently there are two Red Circle comics, The Shield and The Web, and both have co-features of other Red Circle characters (Inferno and Hangman). The Inferno co-feature is going on a break for four issues and The Fox with Oeming will temporarily take its place. The other scetches are of new (or old) Red Circle characters being introduced into the existing books.

The Fox looks awesome! Honestly, Inferno is probably my least favorite of the 4 that were already introduced, so I am amped to see Fox take his place for awhile! The Black Hood and Jaguar designs look nice!! Not so sure about The Comet, but we’ll see. Regardless, I love all this Red Circle goodness lately…The Web has quickly become one of my favorite comics, and Shield is doing pretty well itself!

Wait…writer change for The Web in the works? It was already announced that Matt Sturges was taking over that title…

Mr. Justice!

Awesome! These books have really been good since the initial one-shots. Glad to see DC is really giving them a chance.

I’ve enjoyed the fact that the Web has been a hero rather than an organization from when DC had them under the Impact line.
Shield’s okay but I can’t see why he flies.
Inferno had no interest in.
Hangman has been very good.
Fox looks alright but I liked the original.
Comet looks a bit strange.
Mr. Justice looks cool.
Jaguar is alright but I was hoping they kept the female from the Impact line.
Hood doesn’t impress me either.
Looking forward to Flyman when he comes out.

Ooh more DC titles certain get the axe in a year or two. Get out the Prozac! This company is pathetic.

how comics are being written for the trades now. Story arcs get padded out to be much longer than they need to be, because it’s all about the trade. I’m sure that’s not true for every book out there, but often enough that it’s added to my trade waiting. Take away the often obnoxious ads, throw in the greater durability of trades (not to mention how much easier – and cheaper – they are to store/display at home), and it’s really not a tough choice for me. Discounts, lack of sales tax and free shipping at Amazon just sweetens the deal
