Image Comics has announced that for Spawn #196, it’s going to be an old-school Image team taking on that warrior from Hell.
In addition to series creator Todd McFarlane handling inks and second series artist Greg Capullo handling layouts, Image partner Rob Liefeld will be handling the pencil work for this issue! With the conclusion of ENDGAME, this year’s worth of storylines will tie together Detectives Sam and Twitch, Bill Winston’s suicide, with the mystery of new Hellspawn Jim Downing’s awakening.
“I was looking for good artistic help, and remembered inking over Rob on his New Mutant covers back in the Marvel days, and most recently a little bit of IMAGE UNITED,” McFarlane said in a press statement. “I thought it would be a fun experiment to see what Capullo layouts, Liefeld pencils and my inks looked like together on a handful of pages.”
The book is due out November 25th, and will cost $2.95.

Well, that explains the lack of feet in the accompanying image, eh?

…Even if Capullo did draw it. An homage, if you will…

Years back i would have thought Hell Froze over if these creators worked together. Between this and Image united, seems like any rivilries or disagreements are put in the past. Good deal too. Always thought McFarlane and Leifeld’s parts of the Image Universe worked best together.

Thanks for the warning, David! I’ll be sure to steer clear of this one.

McFarlane is doing everything he can to make Spawn return to the top except pencil the book. Of course, the only thing that will return Spawn to the top 10 is Todd pencilling the book.

Spawn die on issue 100. McFarlane is keeping the book alive to keep selling toys. I thought the new direction was going to bring back what made the character cool, but it was a disapoinment.McFarlane should come up with new ideas or better let Liiefiled do his own thing and let Capullo do the Creech series.

Indeed, Egg. I may have to wedge myself into my old acid-wash jeans and hoodless logo-printed sweatshirt to read this one in my parents’ living room. Good ol’ fashioned teeth-grittin’ and squintin’. Might be fun!
