Cliff Chiang, meet Lois Lane

October 26th, 2009
Author David Pepose

Despite being a proud Massachusettsian, I was busy working for the weekend and wasn’t able to hit the Boston Comic-Con this weekend, which featured comics creators ranging from Scott Wegener, Cliff Chiang, Walt Simonson, and many, many more.

But to make things a little bit better for those who weren’t able to go, Chiang has posted up some images of sketches he drew during this weekend’s Boston Con, ranging from Daredevil to Black Cat to Doctor Strange. But this one is my favorite:

Lois Lane, everybody. Talk about a beautiful image. Surprisingly, a look at the Comic Book Database shows that Chiang has never tackled the Man of Steel in an official capacity before — it’s too bad, because if this image is any indication, he’d hit that series more powerful than a locomotive.

    Cliff Chiang draws everything awesome.

I love Lois sketches. I think they’re sort of hard to do because if you do it wrong, she just ends up looking like a regular woman. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorites.

Elegance is something that is consistent in Chiang’s work imo – especially with his choices in composition and use of contrast :)

Mr. Pepose, how silly of you to propose that DC put Cliff Chiang on a Superman book! Don’t you know they don’t like to put top talent on their Superman comics?

John Ostrander’s lead story from the GOLDEN AGE SECRET FILES published in 2001, while focused primarily on Clark Kent and flashbacks through the life and origin of the Crimson Avenger (Lee Travis), did see Superman appear in a few places. Chang would be great on the character given the right story.

As the owner of the Daredevil sketch he did, I can tell you how awesome all his work is. Really nice guy too.
