Thanks to The Rev. OJ Flow for putting me onto Brian Ausiello’s Entertainment Weekly story that indicates “a male series regular on a one-hour drama — a onetime ratings powerhouse — learned that he was out of a job only after reading his character’s death scene in the script!”
According to Ausiello, his source was speaking on condition of total anonymity–so much so that he couldn’t actually name the series about which the information was being leaked. There were a series of scathing critiques of the show’s producers, though, and a few quotes from insiders about how the blindsided actor was hurt by the showrunners’ unwillingness to discuss it with him first.
While Ausiello wouldn’t confirm or deny it (and promises more hints in the coming week), E! News is reporting that Heroes will be losing a male lead–one of the original cast members–in the coming weeks. Put two and two together (along with the fact that most observers would agree the producers of Heroes haven’t known what they were doing for the last two and a half seasons) and that seems pretty damning. The question, then, is which character is likely to get the ax? I’m thinking HIro–all season, he’s been living on the edge, with his anonymous condition killing him. I, like most viewers, just figured they’d find a way around it–but in a show that steals most of its plots from ’70s Marvel books, would it be surprising to see a Death of Captain Marvel-type story where having powers doesn’t save him? Going against that, though, is the idea that if they’re actually writing him OUT of the show, Hiro would be the hardest to do it with–he could return at any time, given the nature of time-travel.
The most likely seems to be Nathan Petrelli, especially since he’s effectively dead now anyway after this week’s episode, but that seems like it would be pretty unsurprising. Peter would be an enormous shock, so he almost seems like the most likely candidate here–but the whole first part of the season has revolved around him so it seems like they’d be pretty hard-pressed to REALLY get rid of the guy. Ando and Suresh may ironically be safe because of the fact that they’ve been so sidelined this year. Noah Bennett is always a hair’s breadth away from getting killed, being the only one without powers.
I’d love to see it be Sylar–no offense to Zachary Quinto, but the character really has been pretty redundant. I think that’s virtually impossible from a practical sense, though, becuase unless they can come up with another villain who can actually instill some kind of interest in the viewers, Sylar’s here to stay.
What say you, ‘Rama readers?

Okay, okay, I’ll be that guy and throw out the obvious joke here:
“Heroes is still on?”
I can’t imagine what this show could possibly do to get back any of the viewers it’s lost.

I think it’ll be HRG. He’s kind of been sidelined now anyway. But also the invisible carny chick has already proven to be a killer in her efforts to recruit Claire. Maybe HRG finds out about her, and she offs him to keep her secret. Whadda ya think?

I have a feeling that whoever they choose, a fair number of people will leave the show with him. All the characters have their followers, so any one would result in upset fans.
Hiro seems to be doomed, but I have a feeling it’ll be Ando. Losing him will only make Hiro more inspired to work harder.

YAWWWWN…. Wake me when Lost returns. No, wait, next Thursday, in time to catch Fringe.

Oh, and Suresh is still alive?? Wow, from what I’ve read even people who still watch the show hate him.
I might actually tune in just to watch him die, if I knew it was going to be him… The more gruesome the better. His death might even bring a few viewers back. Not many, but a few.

I wish the producers had stuck with the original plan and focus on new characters each season instead of the “story arc” method they went with. I haven’t seen all the episodes this season, but I don’t think there’s any regular character, male or female, I would really mind never seeing again.

The problem here is that they are ONLY killing off one character.
Many of these characters are only in the show because the actors have contracts, not because the story demands it or the writers have anything interesting to say.
I usually hate change, but at this point I’d like to see either a big bloodbath or a good number of them simply walk out of the plot, as Suresh did last year.
Ideally I’d like to see them continue with only 3-4 of the regular cast, preferably HRG (but give him his confidence back), maybe Peter, maybe Tracy. But absolutely lose Parkman, Sylar, and Hiro.
They won’t due it of course, but the ratings are only continue to decline (and they’ve fallen quite far already).

There’s dead-dead, and there’s comic-dead. Heroes usually dances on that line in other matters. Of course, resurecting a character in comics can be done on a whim with a keyboard and a pencil, whereas an actor has to be scheduled, contracted, and rehearsed.
I’m kind of BSing, though, as I dropped the show in the second season. I might catch up on DVD after the series wraps if I find a good “essential episodes” list.

My prediction is Parkman. The guy who has Sylar in his head driving him crazy just might end up committing suicide in a vain attempt to rid the world of him.
