Overall I thought both issues were nothing special. Secret Origins is not going to simplify the superboy to superman mythos, just complicate further. And Blackest Night Superman is an enjoyable side story to the main thing, which is ace.

Being a big Superman fan, I like whats going on in these books more than Action and Superman. Even World of Krypton has started to drag.

Ah yes, the great Mozzocco - Barrows duel of 1899! I can't believe I never made that connection before now! Eddy better keep an eye out for a suspicious looking bald man at the next convention!

Wow Caleb. I’d really like to know what you view as decent artwork

Did you read the first half of the piece? Or any of the hundreds (thousands?) of reviews I've written before? Because that's a quick and easy way to find out.

I sense that there maybe some behind the scenes problems with the man himself. If you do have issues with him that’s fine, but his artwork is far better than the credit you give him.

You got me, Mr. or Ms. Served! The truth is Eddy Barrows' great-great grandfather killed my great-great grandfather in a duel, and ever since, Mozzoccos have been duty bound to give poor reviews of Barrows.

Wow Caleb. I'd really like to know what you view as decent artwork, especially after having seen Blackest Night Superman #2 myself. Barrows has far more than a "tenuous" grasp of anatomy and his storytelling and sense of dynamics really help bring a sense of entertainment to a basic story. I sense that there maybe some behind the scenes problems with the man himself. If you do have issues with him that's fine, but his artwork is far better than the credit you give him.

"...in which the zombies of Earth-2 Superman and Lois Lane come to Smallville to mess with the grown-up, modern day Superman."

Sweet thundering Jebus on a pogo stick, DC is pathetic.

I found Secret Origin rather meh. Genial and nice to look at, but bland and lacking in any real insight or suspense.

Of course, I am also among those who aren't thrilled that the clock has once again been turned back. While I admit that most of what we are seeing here is the classic origin (with tweaks and shout-outs to the movies and Smallville and pretty much every other version of the origin), I came to really like the Byrne version and the stories it led to. I liked Clark not being Superboy, I liked Superman for All Seasons, I liked the Eradicator and middle aged Luthor and Jack Knight meeting young Jor-El. And now it's pretty much swept off the table in favor an old school approach that adds nothing to Superman.

Never mind that Byrne managed to depict the end of Krypton, the day Clark learned the truth, and Superman's first flight in 22 page, while this devotes so many pages to one tiny slice of Supes' life. Kind of makes me miss Byrne a lot.

I am sure someone will explain that Jor-El did something to Kal-El so his powers developed overtime to grow into them and understand them.

I haven't read Secret Origin yet. How does the powers manifesting at puberty jibe with the New Kryptonians getting their powers so quickly? Is it that they have already hit puberty?

Please, Birthright sucked! Let's make Clark a vegetarian. Stoooopid!

Agree about Blackest Night: Superman. It's been the most predictable of the tie-ins, and the most boring.

Okay, okay, I better fix that one, huh? Don't worry, it's a totally PG comic.
