Batman named UK’s most popular superhero

I chalk it up to prep time.

The Telegraph reports that Batman has nudged past Spider-Man and Superman to be the most popular superhero in the UK. The results were tabulated by the sci-fi site SFX.co.uk.

“No matter how often he’s reinvented – a noir detective in the 40s, a camp icon in the 60s, a gothic Knight in the 80s – he’s always the coolest, most iconic and recognisable superhero there is,” said SFX.co.uk editor Dave Golder.

The thing that particularly interested me, however, was the fact that Captain Britain cracked the top ten, making a respectable #7. I guess it’s proof that whatever Marvel was doing with that character overseas, it worked!

Or maybe he won because HIS PARENTS ARE DEAAAAAAAD. Or something.

I think Batman is the most popular super hero because he doesn;t have super powers, he is like any other person and people like that.

I know and understand most people love Batman because he’s truly human in every way and he’s the best anyone could become with riches and handsome good looks (women want him and men want to be him), But when it comes down to it the only reason Bruce Wayne is popular is because every human being has to SETTLE for human power. If… anyone could have super-powers easily, most people would go for it or if super-power was given to the Freak of Batman-freaks: they wouldn’t whine, complain, and cry because they would be so much better than if they were Batman (They’d forget Batman entirely). Humankind would embrace the super-powers and be very happy and joyful a large percentage of the time. Lastly, I believe deep down that Spider-Man is the winner of popularity among Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Goku (Dragonball Z), and other heroes. He is the perfect balance between Kal-El and Bruce Wayne (super-human strength, agility, speed, wall-crawling ability, spider-sense, reflexes, and using webs as rope/weapons/traps) with a red/blue suit and black/white Spidey suit as well. He represents the child in all of us where bravery, confidence, responsibility, and being mighty would not matter if there was no evil period. Plus, the last remark about Peter Parker/Spider-Man is that he’s what if any ordinary human being of any nationality could receive super-powers that are mixture of elements of Superman and Batman. Why would anyone want to be one or the other when being Spidey is an original, yet different amalgamation/blending/combination of both of them. All of the thrills, danger, and good darkness of Batman meets the witty, daring, super-powered fun of Superman in Spider-Man. Spidey wins hands down which I believe most of the comicbook/cartoon fans want. Spider-Man as a hero points out the most realistic fact: an average Joe, whether man or woman, if they had super-power, would they use it responsibly for the good of protecting/saving people because honestly no one has never and will never attempt become Batman because it’s too stressful, tough, and would be short-lived because of spies, danger, and limitations of humanity.
