Will it be any good? Well, I actually liked the second FF movie though I’ll readily admit it had flaws all over the place. I don’t know if Akiva Goldsman and his anointed screenwriter could do better, but if nothing else at least Goldsman himself isn’t doing the writing.

The one that blows my mind is supposedly the deal that gives Fox the right to make Marvel movies “in perpetuity.” That just sounds a little messed-up to me.

The only reason they’re making it is to keep the rights, to there’s no guarantee that they’ll care to make a good film. More so after Wolverine and their push for too many X-Men spinoffs.

…and this movie will be great.

Wrong FF. The movie reflects the Ultimate Marvel version of the FF, where Reed is much younger.

That said, we dont need a reboot. Better scripts maybe, but no more “origin” stories.

With an older cast, Franklin has to be introduced as at least 4 1/2 with the relaunch.

Petersen, formerly of CSI, would make a great Reed Richards. Assuming he can lose the weight.

That being said, it’s hard to cast a better Ben Grimm than Michael Chiklis. Evans was great as Johnny but didn’t have good material to work with. I think Alba COULD be a good Sue, but just like Johnny, the lackluster family angle kinda sank her potential. Remember people: Sue is supposed to be young. Not as young as Johnny, but she met Reed when she was very, very young. And yes, they need to get an old(er) fart to play Reed.

I think the villain should be…DOOM! Why not? I like Namor, but for a reboot, you gotta keep true to the roots. Go with Doom, and throw in something different: like the Negative Zone, or the Skrulls or Franklin.

For God’s sake…let JMS write it.

I think we’re lucky to have an actor of Gruffudd’s caliber in such a beloved role. ‘Nuff said.

Don’t forget — Sue Storm is well established as the most beautiful woman in the Marvel Universe, and it’s hard to take your eyes off of Jessica Alba while she’s on the screen. And, almost in contrast to that, I think she did a terrific job in the second film of portraying some very normal worries in the face of extraordinary circumstances.

I can’t imagine a better Johnny Storm than Chris Evans.

Michael Chiklis suffers very, very well. Normally I’ll take puppets over CGI any day (I find CGI Yodas and Jabbas unwatchable by comparison to the warmth of the puppets in the original Star Wars films), but I must agree with an earlier post that more CGI seems called for in The Thing. I might regret it, though; maybe I’m looking too much for the comic book guy. I just know I’m watching a guy in a suit. Still, what a great character. Your heart breaks when he tries to pick up the ring from the ground.

I say lose Doom, and keep going in the present direction! To the Blue Area of the Moon!

Okay. Let’s go with that.

I liked Chiklis as the Thing and would like to see him continue in the role. The rest of the cast did nothing for me in selling their characters to me. The only other aspect of the previous films I liked was the rendering of the Silver Surfer character, which I thought was just plain cool.

As for the new franchise players? I agree that Namor should be highly considered as the film’s main villain, even if he turns good by the end of it. Supporting characters? How about Atttuma? Stingray?

Another big villain possibility would be The Inhumans. Black Bolt, Medusa, Triton and the rest of the terrigen mist clan could make for an epic battle film. Maybe intro a few more FF-related characters like Black Panther(rights?) or Impossible Man.
Heck, bring back the Surfer for another shot!

All in all, this reboot might spice things up with the First Family of Marvel depending upon licensing rights availability now.

Just think of it. the Thing vs The Sub-Mariner battling throughout New York City. It could be awesome. It might be titanic. It would truly be…

Fantastic.

TBQH, I think Disney would be able to handle the FF better. Fox had the right idea trying to make it a family franchise, they just don’t know how to do that.

At any rate, I think it would word best if, a) they keep Chiklis and Evans, recast everyone else, and b) open the next film with the birth of Franklin Richards, then flash-forward five years so that the plot can be around him in some way.

I admit the Hulk reboot was just needed and welcomed. There was nothing wrong with FF though.

I liked aspects of the FF movies but they also got soo much of wrong. Evans as the Torch was great. I thought the Surfer looked great and had that noble characteristic. BUT they royally screwed up Doom and I think the Thing should have been CGI.

As for new villains? Save and re-boot Dr. Doom later. Start off with Mole Man and the monsters invading NYC or Namor (good way to get him into his own spin-off) or even Annihilus.
